What are the the reasons a narc wont return?
As far as I can see, there is only one possible reason why a narcissist has called it quits as far as you are concerned, and that is if s/he is dead certain that you have figured him/her out. You have discovered that s/he is a narcissist and have come to know the game, the rules and, most importantly, that you refuse to play.
In such a case, the narcissist knows that there will be zero supply coming, s/he will be ignored, marginalized and rendered irrelevant. This is a situation the narcissist cannot handle. In addition, the risk of exposure is very real and would mean that the narcissist might have to go so far as to relocate, establish a new hunting ground and reinvest scarce mental and emotional energy.
