1Cor.3:4 For when one says, "I follow Paul," and another, "I follow Apollos," aren't you fleshly?
Christian's cannot follow a man, but why? Because they are followers of Christ Jesus, and when they follow men they are walking by the flesh instead of the spirit which requires faith and not sight. However, let us remember that the flesh labels something with a name/verses from the bible to justify its conduct, what does this mean? It means the flesh will use Paul's statements here then follow men anyway, yes! It called living a lie, by using a statement to justify the exact opposite conduct, that is, when Christian's become dependent upon a teacher instead of Christ Jesus they are following man. Thus, repeating a word does not change their actions, but the flesh lies to itself by stating a word over, and over again. However, it is still a lies and not Spirit and truth.
Today people often follow a organization defending it actions by hiding behind a composite man, what does this mean? It mean a corporation is no more than a man with one mind, even though it is run by a number of individual, it still speak as one person. Claiming that a person is not following man because they belong to a corporate religion is a falsehood and justification by labeling a things, and doing the exact opposite of truth. In fact, it is just as fleshly as what Paul was dealing with in the Corinthian congregation.
Christian's cannot get around personal responsibility in following Christ Jesus even though they cannot see him in his heavenly power, they still must fully trust with their lives and be dependent upon him for their feeding, and spiritual care as part of his spiritual body. It is when fleshly Christian's look to man instead of Christ Jesus that we see the bad fruitage so often displayed by religion. These fleshly Corinthian's Christian's were looking to men instead of Christ, which caused division, and sect within the body of Christ, partaking again from the tree of Good and Evil, where death, and corruptions are found.
Hebrews 12:9 Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live?
