1John 2:22 Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the Antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. 2:23 Whoever denies the Son, the same doesn't have the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also.
Who of us would deny the very life in us, saying as it were: “my hand has life outside my body?” How fundamentally shocking is that to any person with a half-a-brain? John is not teaching we must listen very carefully to make sure a person confess the Christ, and the Father, no! In context, John is speaking about the witness of the Father and the Son in each child of God by their anointing, how could a Christian's deny the life in them, like a hand denying the life of the body in them.
This is what John was speaking against, these anointed Christian's did not receive their new birth through some great teacher, or group, it was from God their Father who supplied too them His Holy Spirit which teaches them all things about Him and the Son. Many did, and have confessed both the Father and Son since Christ Jesus and done every act of evil imaginable upon earth, hence, stating something with ones mouth is not truth, truth is Christ Jesus, and our being a part of that light and truth, which produce the fruit of God's Holy Spirit is truth.
James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves. 1:23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror; 1:24 for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 1:25 But he who looks into the perfect law of freedom, and continues, not being a hearer who forgets, but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does. 1:26 If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn't bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man's religion is worthless.
The issues John was dealing with were those listening to another Good News that of teachers preaching outside of Christ Jesus, but how? Simply put, when a Christian's teaches outside of Christ they are teaching us fear of trusting God's anointing; as not enough. What a teacher teaches is reminders of what all anointed Christian's have written into their hearts, which is about loving, and trusting our own heavenly Father, not prophecy of end time dates, and the like, making that more important than God's witness in them.
Teachers are reminding us to say faithful to God, and trust in Him as a good Father who would not deceive His children, not in trusting an organization, or some superfine teacher. This is the faithful witness that does not deny the Father or the Son, and is in us, and is faithfully found in our anointing.
