1Cor.13:2 If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but don't have love, I am nothing.
There were many powerful works done by the prophets of God before Christ, and many powerful works done by Christian's after Christ Jesus death and resurrection. Moreover, they were powerful works being done by Satan ministers of light within some of the early Christian's congregations, but after Christ Jesus all powerful works had to have one common denominator, and that was love, but what type of love? The love that comes down into the body of Christ Jesus from above with no variation or turning of a shadow created by sins of the flesh.
That is the love from God's perfect present in good works of His Holy Spirit. Christian's had no way of claiming truth outside of the Christ Jesus, outside of Christ they would have no way in testing the spirit(s) to see if they were from God without His love.
In other words, if they did not trust or put faith in the witness God sealed in them, the life of Christ Jesus, they would be mislead into intellectual wisdom from teachers promoting knowledge as salvation over the the wisdom of God, found in their head, Christ Jesus. Moreover, Christ Jesus had warned them that many false prophets would come, and many of them would do powerful works in his name.
James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God," for God can't be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. 1:14 But each one is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. 1:15 Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin; and the sin, when it is full grown, brings forth death. 1:16 Don't be deceived, my beloved brothers. 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. 1:18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.
But none of them were the “Truth”, the Truth existed in them as a gift of God's love, which was the life of the faithful witness, Jesus Christ, the Truth of God, and God's Wisdom. Love was the key, without the love of God through Christ Jesus coming from the Holy Spirit, and not from sinful hearts, which dole out love by merit of intellect, or other powerful works, designed to glorify oneself, to impress the fleshly minds of others; which would mislead the body of Christ, and divided it into groups fighting over doctrine(s) of men.
What Paul did, and we ourselves should humbly acknowledge, is without love, we are nothing at all, which is the love given too us by the undeserved kindness of God. There is nothing we can produce from the will of the sinful flesh in knowledge, or powerful works that can give another person the eternal life of Christ Jesus. We can boast in faith, and prophecy about end times, we can remember every word of the bible, and be elevated into the heavenly places by men in power, having great authority, but without the life of Christ Jesus, and the love of God flowing into the body members, we are nothing but noise and hot air.
