1John 3:21 Beloved, if our hearts don't condemn us, we have boldness toward God; 3:22 and whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.
Do we keep our hearts from condemning us by denying that our hearts do condemn us from time too time? What does this mean? It means, if a person is honest they no they fail far short of God's glory, and they are a daily sinner, needing forgiveness of their sins by Christ propitiation priesthood. They don't deny this so their hearts won't condemn them, no!
Christian's love the truth, even if it is about them, they don't become mentally ill by living a lie, spiting up their personality into fragments because they can't see their true condition. Moreover, they don't twist the words of Christ Jesus, or the other apostles into believing they can meet the commandments without God's forgiveness for breaking some of them.
No, once again this is not the apostle John's meaning here, John is not teaching to meet the commandments of the Old Law, what he is saying is; that Christian's are under the New Law of Love, and how many commandments does the law of love have?
Rom.13:9 For the commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not give false testimony," "You shall not covet,"{TR adds "You shall not give false testimony,"}{Exodus 20:13-15,17; Deuteronomy 5:17-19,21} and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."{Leviticus 19:18}
Yes, just one, and do we stand condemned at times for not loving other as God love us, Yes! Most of the time, so how are we not condemned, well, does God's love condemn us? Hence, if we are walking in love, and are under God's love? So what was John saying. He was saying that many were condemning themselves by being “in the law” which condemn everyone without love, by law and not love our hearts will condemn us by the sin of flesh being point up by the same law, and we know that if we are honest. On the other hand, once we get it spiritually that its not about us, but Christ Jesus, and his righteous life which paid the price for the Law, freeing us so we can be under God's own love expressed in Jesus Christ, we start to understand God's love.
But this requires faith not performance based upon sight of doing things to make us appear like were righteous, but rather walking in love even if we look like a fool to those of the flesh demanding mocked humility through meet rules of a certain religious group. John was saying, remain in faith, trust in God's love, which has removed your judgment in Christ Jesus, if you do this, your hearts will not condemn you, but if you justify yourselves by merit of good works, you will never be good enough to stop condemning your self. But if you rest in Christ Jesus merit, that is, what he has done for you, accepting the gift of God's love as unmerited, unearned kindness, you will not go back to the Old Law, or any other law of your flesh in trying to be self-righteous.
Heb. 4:6 Seeing therefore it remains that some should enter therein, and they to whom the good news was before preached failed to enter in because of disobedience, 4:7 he again defines a certain day, today, saying through David so long a time afterward (just as has been said), "Today if you will hear his voice, don't harden your hearts."{Psalm 95:7-8} 4:8 For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterward of another day. 4:9 There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God. 4:10 For he who has entered into his rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from his.
