Matt.5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.
Can one be a greater peacemaker than God Himself? Well of course not! But how did God make peace with us, and who are the peacemakers Jesus speaks to here? God took down the thing causing enmity between Him and man, do you know what that was?
Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off are made near in the blood of Christ. 2:14 For he is our peace, who made both one, and broke down the middle wall of partition, 2:15 having abolished in the flesh the hostility, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man of the two, making peace; 2:16 and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, having killed the hostility thereby.
So how can a person be a peacemaker if one builds up again what Christ own precious blood broke down, they can't. Peace does not come from making one righteous by works of laws that Christ Jesus broke down. The Scribes and Pharisee's were not peace makers, no one in their right mind would have declared them that. They were hostile towards the people because they enforced the hostility of God's righteous laws over the people.
The peace for the law was not the law, the law created an unobtainable circumstance for those under it, it could not be obeyed perfectly, as legally required, because all humans are sinners, disqualifying them from the gate to even run in the race for eternal life under the law. The law was hostile too sinners, it did not make peace blessing them.
Peace for law breakers cannot come by enforcing more laws upon them, which they cannot keep; creating greater hostility, no! Peace comes from the innocent blood of an animal victim that God allows one to take for remission of their sins, so they may make peace with God for breaking His righteous laws. Who are the peacemakers Christ Jesus speak to here, those teaching the truth of Christ Jesus righteous peace making blood between God and mankind, certainly, not those teaching more hostility by rules and laws of their organized religion.
