James 1:23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror; 1:24 for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.
The ultimate question each Christian's must ask themselves, which mirror do you peer into, because this was the real problems for those early Christian's, that is, those confining the body of Christ Jesus to fleshly rules again?
Does a man peer into rules and laws of the flesh or the Law of Moses forgetting he was condemned to death as a sinner by it? Or rather, do we peer into the law of freedom James later speak too in his letter?
The flesh is a liar, its like a tree with many shadows, always changing by the light of God's word, but not so with the light from Christ Jesus in the law of freedom. The flesh see itself as superficial no deeper than the thin skin of self-righteousness, but the truth sees the heart of the man not the flesh of the man, why? Because Christian's are to worship in truth and Spirit not in flesh and the fleshly mind.
The law of Christ is more than skin deep it goes into the heart where God of love has written his word into our hearts. But not so with the laws of the flesh, the laws of the flesh looks at how good it looks and than turns and kills it own brother with rules and laws that condemn itself; that is how weak and foolish the fleshly-minded Christian is.
James says how quick we forget our own sin in our own flesh, how we should peer into the mirror of the Christ Jesus the head of the congregation of God, and see the truth about ourselves that it is by Christ Jesus righteousness we have been forgiven our deserved judgment of death by laws of the flesh.
