Matt.5:41 Whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. 5:42 Give to him who asks you, and don't turn away him who desires to borrow from you.
What a stark stunning contrast for those living by merit of earn reward under the Law. Nothing could stand so foolish and worthless as simply letting an unrighteous person take money from you, let alone going and extra mile into service with them.
Why did Christ say these things? Why would he seem so weak and foolish to those Jews trained from child-hood under the righteous laws of God? It was that love, the law of his Father YHWH does not own anyone a single thing, but to love them. How shocking is that speech to a legalistic mind set upon payment and reward from good thing done towards the law, it is impossible for that legal mind to cross over such a great chasm as this. It cannot imagine God Himself removed the judgment of the Law by His own love towards mankind in sending a perfect gift of His love, given freely, without merit, and what was that? The precious blood of a righteous man Christ Jesus to abolish our own judgment. Yes, God Himself went the extra distance for us, He allowed Himself to go the extra mile by unrighteous sinner hating Him and His Son. God gave up not only His judgments of us, but also the precious life of His Son for us.
Now isn't the greater the Spirit, so how can the lesser of the flesh not do the least in being wronged in gratitude for God's goodness towards us? But is this a new law legislated by a religion group defining in legal words, in how much, when, and where we can be wronged, in our act in love towards our neighbor? Well, if it is were there is no reward in heaven for us. One cannot legislated love of neighbor, it is not a law, it is given freely out of kindness and mercy.
