Matt. 7:3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but don't consider the beam that is in your own eye?
A speck is not big compared to a beam, but what is Jesus speaking here, when consider his audience? Well, he was talking to the Jews under the law, he had just commandment then to stop judging or they would be judge. The social environment of the Jews was in judging by the law of God each other, something the Scribes and Pharisee's practice as righteousness.
So it was a judgmental society climbing on the backs of someone else through judgments of right and wrong thinking it would make one righteous before God. In other words, “truth” was judgment by God's word. But the problems was God's word condemned all of them as sinners and not righteous, to be right with God they had to be forgiven their sin by innocent blood of animals.
Now here was the context, truth to the Scribes and Pharisee's was judging according to the commandments of God there was no higher truth too them. Jesus stated to stop judging, how could that be they were under judgment by the very laws of God? But what they had forgotten was God stop judging them by the blood of innocent victim upon His altar called the seat of mercy. But they had no mercy for their brothers and sister, they wanted judgments of their known sin, the speck, not the beam of having their own sins remitted by innocent blood. Yes, they believed they had the right by God's word to judge, and judge they did until they killed the very Son of God! It is interesting that later Christ would say those gaining eternal life would do so, by one little act of “kindness” to Christ Jesus brothers, not by judgment, but kindness, what does that tells us about the human condition?
Matt.25:37 "Then the righteous will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you; or thirsty, and give you a drink? 25:38 When did we see you as a stranger, and take you in; or naked, and clothe you? 25:39 When did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to you?' 25:40 "The King will answer them, 'Most certainly I tell you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers{The word for "brothers" here may be also correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings."}, you did it to me.'
