Daily Bible Thought > James 4:9 - Lament, Mourn & Weep

James 4:9 Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to gloom.

What indeed did James mean here, are Christian's to be miserable and beat their bodies somehow into being humble in God's sight? Well, no! James did not mean that at all, why? Because those James spoke too here were of the body of Christ Jesus, where their flesh was dead, and of no value at all in Christ, so certainly this was not James meaning.

James spoke a truth of two minds, one mind is Christ Jesus mind, and the other mind of the flesh, which is a legal mind set upon proving itself by works of law, but still there is more, and what is that?

The fleshly mind exalts itself over others how? By judging them less through God's world the bible, just like the world in defeating their enemies verbally, or physically, so they can exalt themselves as better; the winner of the argument/fight! But James entire letters deals with the fruits of the flesh mind, and the mind of Christ. One is from below, while the other is from above coming down to us in God's wisdom of peace.

When a person is in the mind of Christ Jesus they lament and mourn in their flesh, crying out: “ What a miserable man I am!” They see by Holy Spirit workings of the fleshly mind and all its lies and justifies in hating/judging others, and it knows on its very best day it can't change its flesh as a sinner into not being a sinner!

Romans 7:18 For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don't find it doing that which is good.

So James speak clear here there nothing to rejoice about in in our flesh, which is dead, killed by the life of Christ Jesus because there is nothing worth saving in its. So stop rejoicing in it, stop delighting in its unrighteous judgments of other fleshly people feeling superior because you can put them down with God's word the bible and realize you are a miserable man in your flesh as are all human God calls liar.

Rom.7:23 but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members. 7:24 What a wretched man I am! Who will deliver me out of the body of this death? 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ, our Lord! So then with the mind, I myself serve God's law, but with the flesh, the sin's law.
