James 4:12 Only one is the lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge another?
James reminds the brothers that there's only one who was lawgiver, Yahweh. Why would Christians need a remember that there's only one lawgiver? The context of what James speaks here is in contexts to the rest of his letter, let us remember, James has spoken about the fruit of the legal mind.
The legal mind, is a is a law mind, that is, it is set upon judging the evils of our flesh. It was created from Adams sin from his own mind, passed on too us as the mind of the flesh. Hence, it is set upon the things below, not the things above, where Christ is seated. The fleshly mind is of no value at all to the things above, that is, to the mind of Christ.
John 3:31 He who comes from above is above all. He who is from the Earth belongs to the Earth, and speaks of the Earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.
John 6:63 It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life.
Thus, the fleshly mind, is alienated from God, it cannot know God, because it is an earthly demonic mind that yearns with the spirit of jealousy. It is full of lust, and fights, from within an from without. So how can such a mind judge righteously? What does it mean, to judge righteously? Many fleshly mind Christians believes it is the judge by God's word the Bible, but is it?
John 8:15 You judge according to the flesh. I judge no one.
Actually, no it is not. It is on the other hand, instead those judging with mind of Christ Jesus, hence, what law is in the mind of Christ, which is also the mind of Yahweh? God has given his son His mind. The mind, and the spiritual feeding that Adam and Eve lost. Christ mind has, but one law, which is, the Royal law of love.
James2:8 However, if you fulfill the royal law, according to the Scripture, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself,"{Leviticus 19:18} you do well.
James 2:12 So speak, and so do, as men who are to be judged by a law of freedom.
There is no condemnation nor judgment in the mind of Christ, which is found in the body of Christ. So these brothers and sisters needed to be reminded they were not law givers, no! They were given the Royal Law by being in the body of Christ, thus, having the mind of Christ. They were under undeserved kindness, or unmerited kindness. They had been set free from judgment, from sin's law, they needed to heed Jesus is words. "Stop judging!"
