Daily Bible Thought > James 5:9 - Grumble Against One Another

James 5:9 Don't grumble, brothers, against one another, so that you won't be judged. Behold, the judge stands at the door.

How can grumbling cause our judgment when that is the nature of mankind? The answer to the question is, what is grumbling? Grumbling is usually about what someone does, or does not do, that is, judging the conduct of another against who's conduct, ours! We feel our way is better than theirs, and perhaps it is, so the other person annoys us because they won't do it our way.

Perhaps, we have a boss that annoys us, or a mate, we know we can't change it so instead we grumble for some sort of relief judging the person for a personality trait we don't like. But here James speaks specifically to whom? The body of Christ Jesus, can a person be in the body of Christ Jesus and grumble, no! They cannot, when we grumble we are in a fleshly mind, complaining about out lot in this life discontent with it and others.

In fact, we are dead to the spiritual mind of Christ when we grumble, Christ Jesus mind is not both good and evil, it is rather the working of the God's Holy Spirit, which is controlled by the law of love, which is the Royal law of YHWH. So how can any human not grumble at times? They can't, they are a sinner falling far short of the glory of God, whom is Christ Jesus. So what can they do; is stop judging, but how? As state above knowing that we too are a sinner and a grumbler; than to be quick too forgive, quick to check ourselves, but be extremely appreciative of God own undeserved kindness found in Christ Jesus. Yes, with the humility of thankfulness in God's kindness it is so much easier to look up thankfully than to look down at a brother or sister and grumble.
