James 5:14 Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord 5:15 and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
Lets us be truthful here, those elders praying and healing the sick among them spiritually and/or physically would be those appointed by God's Holy Spirit. Moreover, they would be men of the body of Christ, and helping another members of the body of Christ as a servant within the same body.
These men were not appointed to a legal position within some organized religion. They would be under the direction and headship of the Christ. The healing would not be a public spectacle to prove they were a person of God, or test God as being in the person. No! Instead they would be known as appointed by Holy Spirit, which does not excite the works of the flesh. Furthermore, the power to heal the person would come through the order of the body, not from the person themselves as possessing something outside the body of Christ Jesus. Does this power exist today? Well first all the above factors would have to agree, but in today's world we do not see a place that the anointed of Christ Jesus gather as the early first century congregation.
What we see instead is forty one thousand sect of religions created by man just as Christ said would be, the weed over sown the field of wheat world wide. Sadly, each member of the body of Christ is scatter until the end of this world where Christ will come with God's Holy angels to remove the weed from the wheat. The power has not changed in the body of Christ, but rather the body being trampled upon by false Christian's prevents such healing as God's appointed elders James speak too here.
James 5:16 Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective.
Confession of ones sin is not interrogation, no! When a sick person confess a sin they are stating I am sick and I need help in overcoming this sickness. There is a vast difference in the two, one is a police force upholding the law, the other is a physician of faith helping ones to trust and love God.
The body of Christ Jesus here that James speak too is a body of members intimately connected by the law of love, through the head of the body. Simply put, if a hand on our own body suffer a sickness the rest of the body aids in helping the hand. It does not judge the hand as evil needing to be kicked out of the body.
The body members of Christ Jesus are under unmerited kindness they are indeed in the body because of Christ Jesus righteousness and not their own. Moreover, they were not able to put away the filth of their own flesh, they were allowed to by Christ Jesus merit in a gift of God's own love too them. Subsequently, a spiritual man workings as an elder should discern what the body of Christ Jesus is knowing The difference between flesh and spirit. If the elder is not spiritual he will kill both spirit and flesh by laws that have no mercy just conviction and death!
1 Peter 3:21 This is a symbol of baptism, which now saves you--not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
James 2:12 So speak, and so do, as men who are to be judged by a law of freedom. 2:13 For judgment is without mercy to him who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
