James 5:19 Brothers, if any among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, 5:20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death, and will cover a multitude of sins.
Is James now teaching us works of law, that is, if a person puts themselves in a position of power as a religious leader letting ones confess their sins to us, we earn merit in God's eyes? No! But why?
Simply put, there is only one law over the body of Christ Jesus the Royal law of God Himself, love! God recommended His love to us while we were yet sinners, which in real terms means, love covers a multitude of sins. In fact, the worlds sin if they turn too God in faith in his words of promise in Christ Jesus.
So where would we turn a sinner back too? A religion, the bible, a bible study, or the love of God? Hence, in trusting that God is merciful, and has given us a high priest in the Son of God. Would we not send the person back to the Royal law of God Himself, or would we rather bring them under enslavement of judgment, and hate created by the law of God removed by Christ Jesus. Such conduct is the way of the legal minded Christian's, that is, the fleshly minded Christian's to uphold the law of Moses and/or the commandment to punish the unrighteous and the wicked. But is this the way of those freed of such Judgment, and place under undeserved kindness in the Royal law of love? No! Its not, but why? Because such righteous laws as good as there were, did not put away the filth of our flesh before God, so what puts away the filth of our flesh before God? Death, and nothing but death for our sinful flesh! But how can we do that while living in our sinful flesh so than how can we get spiritual healing, well we can't!
Galatians 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us. For it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree,"{Deuteronomy 21:23}
Ephesians 2:15 having abolished in the flesh the hostility, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man of the two, making peace;
We must be saved out of a hopeless darkness because we have no righteousness to save ourselves, hence can we be saved? It is by God's own love, in sending us Christ Jesus, so we can have his righteous life imputed too use killing (flesh) our own judgment by God's righteous laws. Yes, we are dead in Christ Jesus giving us a clean conscience before God, we can say: “Father look a your son righteousness, and not my sins as you have promised forgive me”.
1 Peter 3:21 This is a symbol of baptism, which now saves you--not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
Here than is what a righteous man does, he does not enslave a sinner to more sins, but sends them to the truth in Christ Jesus, he does not use his power of knowledge of God to get something for himself, honor, power, money, or control, he frees the sinner turning that person back to love, the Royal law, he himself is under proving he is thankful of the undeserved kindness of God towards himself.
