Daily Bible Thought > John 10:10 - Thief Comes To Steal And Kill

John10:10 The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.

Life in abundantly what a wonderful thought in a world where each person daily marches towards death, where death steals the souls of mankind trying through every means to prevent death, where men and woman sale their souls for some moment of pleasure.

But Christ says he gives life in abundance what is the context of his words. The Jew thought life in abundance came from the Law given to Moses, God's laws. But it did not, the law did not bring life in abundance it brought with it the conviction of death with the hope of a better covenant of life with God. The hope was found in the blood of atonement spill upon the altar of God by the High Priest, it picture the one great atonement for mankind by the Son of God Christ Jesus.

Romans 7:10 The commandment, which was for life, this I found to be for death.

Jesus Christ was the abundant life that would father the human race like Adam should have done, Adam father sin and death, but Christ would father eternal life in abundance for those putting faith in him. He would not convict people of sin like the law with no way out, he would instead bring people to life removing sin, by his abundant life. Yes, this is the context of Christ words spoken to that Jewish nation that could not see past their glorious temple and it service. Christ was God's glory eternally and forever, but one must have eyes of faith to see his spiritual kingdom not made with human hands.

Hebrews 7:19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.

Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death.
