1Cor.6:13 "Foods for the belly, and the belly for foods," but God will bring to nothing both it and them. But the body is not for sexual immorality, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.
The flesh is dead in Christ Jesus and its passions, a person could not be a spirit person in the flesh and live for the lust of the flesh without becoming a person of the flesh.
John 6:63 It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life.
These brothers and sisters were chosen to be a part of Christ Jesus spiritual body, for God's glory, they had been purchased by God with the precious blood of Christ Jesus, they did not belong too themselves so why would they use their fleshly body giving up the privilege of being a part of Christ Jesus by pursuing the lust of the flesh?
Romans 8:6 For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace;
Romans 8:8 Those who are in the flesh can't please God.
Over eating, and sexual immorality was dead in the spiritual body of Christ Jesus, but these brothers and sister were still in the flesh allowing these unclean thoughts and actions to run ramped in their mortal members, but why? Perhaps, thinking because the laws of the flesh judgment was gone against them by being freed from its in God's eye, they could think and do as the pleased? At any rate they had fallen into loose conduct, failing to understand the scope of Christ Jesus life in them as righteousness, a force for good, working righteousness, founded in God's love.
Here than is the weakness of our fleshly mind, that is, when we don't walk in faith which requires us to be led by Holy Spirit that puts too death our fleshly mind and its lust. When we rest in faith, hence, in Christ Jesus where our faith in found we have the resurrect power of Christ life in us which sanctifies and making us holy in thoughts of the mind of Christ where no fleshly desire and thought resides. These brothers and sisters were not walking in faith, they were walking in the fleshly mind which wars with the Spirit of God, creating more lust within their members by its legal minds justification of their actions that are dead works in Christ.
Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don't walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.{NU omits "who don't walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit"}
Romans 8:3 For what the law couldn't do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God did, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh;
Romans 8:4 that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Romans 8:5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
