Luke 18:18 A certain ruler asked him, saying, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" 18:19 Jesus asked him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good, except one--God.
The fleshly mind looks for the one button that will answer every question about God, and if they push that button they will be saved. In other words, make it rock-solid write it down in a contract, and I will do that work of law/contract to please God so I can be saved!
Fear is the nature of the legal fleshly mind, it hates simple faith, but it lies too others about its faith, why? Simply put, it puts its faith in concrete rules, not in walking on water. Here this ruler wanted a royal command simple stating in concrete terms from Christ Jesus so he could go about his business, and be saved making him righteous before God, hence, not taking way too much time from his business of rulership.
But Christ shocked his fleshly legal mind into a reality of the spirit world where God governs by a Spirit Law of Love, how did Christ do that? This ruler had seen and heard of Christ good works, certainly he was comparing his own works against God's prophet Christ Jesus. Jesus said: “why do you call me good, no one is good, but God!” What shocking words to a ruler, wasn't the ruling class better than common people, wasn't that the reason there were common people, and isn't that why he wasn't?
Wasn't Christ being called the king of Jews, didn't Christ consider himself special, above better than others on earth? No! Christ did not delude himself like fleshly minded people do because they associate with some group or know certain people in high places makes one better superior, Christ instead spoke divine truth, of all truths, and what was that? He was in his flesh a servant sent to do a job and that job was not completed, so how could one glorify themselves upon earth until it was? How could he be good when that had been decided by his master yet?
Matt.18:1 In that hour the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Who then is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?" 18:2 Jesus called a little child to himself, and set him in the midst of them, 18:3 and said, "Most certainly I tell you, unless you turn, and become as little children, you will in no way enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. 18:4 Whoever therefore humbles himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. 18:5 Whoever receives one such little child in my name receives me.
Today many in false religion have glorified their position upon earth being leaders over vast amounts of human through powerful positions created by religious corporation(s)/governments thinking indeed they are good or they would not be at the top by their special talent, but they should consider what Christ said too the ruler and wonder if they are in the truth of the faithful servant whom waits upon his master for the final approval?
Matt.18:6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him that a huge millstone should be hung around his neck, and that he should be sunk in the depths of the sea. 18:7 "Woe to the world because of occasions of stumbling! For it must be that the occasions come, but woe to that person through whom the occasion comes!
