MAIN TALK UNDERSTANDING GOD THE SCRIPTURES

Daily Bible Thought > Luke 18:20 - You Know The Commandments?

Luke18:20 You know the commandments: 'Don't commit adultery,' 'Don't murder,' 'Don't steal,' 'Don't give false testimony,' 'Honor your father and your mother.'"{Exodus 20:12-16; Deuteronomy 5:16-20}

So many legal minded Christian's when reading Christ words here and some of the apostles words stating the Old Law saying; “well, I have keep theses commandment's unlike other sinners. Which means I am better than others”, no! This was the exact thinking of this rich ruler, what many Christian's don't understand, and this rich ruler is?

No human born from Adam's sin could keep the commandment's not one that is why God sent us Christ Jesus, what does this mean? What is means is just that, if you were a sinner you do not qualify to keep the commandment's of God before you every try to keep them! In other words, if you have every hated someone you commit murder in God's eyes, you don't have to physically kill someone to murder them from hate. If you look at the opposite sex with lust you have committed adultery.

Matt. 5:21 "You have heard that it was said to the ancient ones, 'You shall not murder;'{Exodus 20:13} and 'Whoever shall murder shall be in danger of the judgment.'
5:22 But I tell you, that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause{NU omits "without a cause".} shall be in danger of the judgment; and whoever shall say to his brother, 'Raca{"Raca" is an Aramaic insult, related to the word for "empty" and conveying the idea of empty-headedness.}!' shall be in danger of the council; and whoever shall say, 'You fool!' shall be in danger of the fire of Gehenna.{or, Hell}

Wait a minute! Those standards are way to high for any human being, how can this be, I am a good person, now you have made Christ exact point. Any person loving truth would know they are a sinner and would not become self-righteous, why? It is because God supply righteous blood at his altar the seat of mercy for this rich young ruler, did this ruler think it was for someone else and not him? Are you a Christian's that thinks Christ blood is for only the extremely wicked person physically breaking God's commandment's above?

Matt.5:27 "You have heard that it was said, {TR adds "to the ancients,"} 'You shall not commit adultery;'{Exodus 20:14}
5:28 but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.

Well, if you do your wrong, perhaps dead wrong! The lack of love is a sin to God, but not too humans, so Christ makes the point instead of stating the above he ask what was impossible for this rich young ruler to do; sell all that he had distributing it to the poor. Now this was impossible for him to do or any rich person; he could materially understand how hard it was to enter into the kingdom by human effort, but failed to understand it spiritually.

So what did he need? Forgiveness through the innocent blood for breaking God's commandment's, subsequently, he unwittingly broke all the commandment's if he could not keep one of them, he broke them all, how? Just as Christ stated above, but still that not enough for some. If you can't enter into a race because you can't meet the standards of the race rules, than, if you run without being qualified you break all the rules no matter how well you do! If you are a sinner you cannot get into God's Kingdom without the precious blood of Christ Jesus to qualify you, no matter how much you try daily. You will not enter in, by your good works, instead, it is Christ good works imputed too you that gives you life. In other words, you better have faith in Christ Jesus and not yourself, by thinking how much better you are than others.

Luke18:21 He said, "I have observed all these things from my youth up." 18:22 When Jesus heard these things, he said to him, "You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have, and distribute it to the poor. You will have treasure in heaven. Come, follow me."
18:23 But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was very rich.

Matt.5:19 Whoever, therefore, shall break one of these least commandments, and teach others to do so, shall be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven; but whoever shall do and teach them shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.
