Daily Bible Thought > Luke 13:1-3 - Worse Sinners?

Luke 13:1 Now there were some present at the same time who told him about the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. 13:2 Jesus answered them, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered such things? 13:3 I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all perish in the same way.

There are a number of factors at play here in Jesus words. First, Christ was a Galilean, whom were look down upon by to the Jews, next, we have the Roman ruler over the nations of Israel, Pilate, the law of the land, and than we find the truth of human nature, which is, human judgments regarding which sins are more or less through laws of sin.

John 8:15 You judge according to the flesh. I judge no one.

However, Jesus take this horrify judgment of Pilate, and places it into realty of truth, which is, God's, the supreme authority/Judge, the one authority we should be most concern with for eternal life says: “if a person does not repent for their sins they would perish in the same way.” Well, lets consider the last factor, which is, the time table, the place in the Israels history Christ was speaking too or none of this will make much sense.

Many of person have not repented since Christ spoke these words until today, two-thousands years later, many have not known of God, or Christ, some have violently resisted the truth their whole life dying and unrepentant sinner. Hence, they did not perish as Christ said in such a violent way, but whom did perish by God's judgment during this generation in such a violent manner?

Romans 14:4 Who are you who judge another's servant? To his own lord he stands or falls. Yes, he will be made to stand, for God has power to make him stand.

It was the entire nation of Israel in 70CE the generation Christ spoke to here, and prophecy over that their world would come to a very violent end. Hence, if they did not repent accepting the truth of Christ redeeming blood, rejecting the temple worship and services. However, the point being made, we as human in our flesh, that is, our fleshly thinking focus on the evil in other humans thinking we are better of greater righteousness than those convicted of sin by man's law. The shocking words of Christ to those Jews keeping the law, as law-abiding citizens, of Roman, and Israel, was meant to sober them up to their coming judgment by God's hand, which puts them into the same judgments of evil criminals despised by these self-righteous Jews.

Matt.7:1 "Don't judge, so that you won't be judged. 7:2 For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you.
