In other words, the Pharisees wanted Christ Jesus gone they had the power of authority within Israel at this time, but they could not command the Son of God. Subsequently, they approach Christ like a concerned individual to give him a warning that he already knew as the Son of God. Here Christ replies tying all of them together into a conspiracy to kill him.
John 7:30 They sought therefore to take him; but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.
Christ speak to Herod by way of the Pharisees exposing Herod the king of Jews as devious fox ultimately letting his listener know that Christ had a commission from the absolute power of God, and no earthly king could changes it, for Christ destiny was not in the hands of man, and when it was, but for a moment they would destroy him in a heart beat. Like a fox Herod and these Pharisees would have to wait until God took his hand away from the hen house for them to complete their hatred for Christ. But until then Christ would be at his Father work, up until the very minute God allowed Christ destruction for the atonement of us.
Matthew 26:45 Then he came to his disciples, and said to them, "Sleep on now, and take your rest. Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
Christ knew all things regarding the evil of men, he knew his hour, and he knew his commission, he knew he would die, and knew he would be betrayed, but like fleshly minded people think the Pharisees treated Christ as of know account, thinking they could distract the God's own Son by devious tact's.
John 18:36 Jesus answered, "My Kingdom is not of this world. If my Kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I wouldn't be delivered to the Jews. But now my Kingdom is not from here."
