MAIN TALK UNDERSTANDING GOD THE SCRIPTURES

Daily Bible Thought > John.15:10 - Keep my Commandments?

John.15:10 If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and remain in his love.

Which commandments is Christ speaking too here, and how many are there of his commandments? These are fair questions because some religion teach any suggestion coming from their leadership is not just a suggestion, but actually a commandment not to be broken without God's consequence!

Jesus said a lot of things we should do, hence, if men in leadership of position suggestions are considered commandments what of Christ words? Subsequently, like the Pharisees whom by their commandments made everyone unclean because they had so many of them that no one could help but break them, so goes religions of our day.

Matt.5:28 but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.
5:29 If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna.{or, Hell}

1 Peter 3:21 This is a symbol of baptism, which now saves you--not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Acts 11:8 But I said, 'Not so, Lord, for nothing unholy or unclean has ever entered into my mouth.'

Acts 11:9 But a voice answered me the second time out of heaven, 'What God has cleansed, don't you call unclean.'

Will, Christ commanded us to love one another, later we are told that love fulfills the Old Law, which means fulfills all of God's commandments. However, some will argue saying: “this is true, but Christ said his commandments, not the Old law commandments”. Once again forgetting love does not add commandments it fulfills them.

Romans 13:9 For the commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not give false testimony," "You shall not covet,"{TR adds "You shall not give false testimony,"}{Exodus 20:13-15,17; Deuteronomy 5:17-19,21} and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."{Leviticus 19:18}

Romans 13:10 Love doesn't harm a neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law.

But there is so much more here that it becomes impossible for a fleshly minded Christian's to even understand, and what is that? It is that a sinful person cannot keep God's commandments, or Christ commandments, those commandments become sin too them, but how? Simply put, they do not declare the person righteous, instead, they condemn us as not being able to keep those commandments, making us a sinner. Thus, the commandments become sin too us.

Rom.7:8 But sin, finding occasion through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of coveting. For apart from the law, sin is dead.

However, if God makes us part of Christ living life, then we are set free from sin, hence, keeping his commandments, because we are sinless in Christ. So here we find the truth, one thought of flesh in keeping written commandments, while the other is of actually keeping the commandments by remaining in Christ, being declared sinless by Christ righteousness. One is in keeping the commandments based upon self-righteousness, while the other is based upon Christ righteousness, so how do you obey by works of law or faith?

Rom.7:18 For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don't find it doing that which is good. 7:19 For the good which I desire, I don't do; but the evil which I don't desire, that I practice.

Romans 5:15 But the free gift isn't like the trespass. For if by the trespass of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God, and the gift by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many.

John 8:36 If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.
