Rom.9:9 For this is a word of promise, "At the appointed time I will come, and Sarah will have a son."{Genesis 18:10,14} 9:10 Not only so, but Rebecca also conceived by one, by our father Isaac. 9:11 For being not yet born, neither having done anything good or bad, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him who calls, 9:12 it was said to her, "The elder will serve the younger."{Genesis 25:23}
A spiritual person lives by faith, a fleshly minded person lives by laws, though, they think not, but without law they have no faith in God's promises. Abraham the Father of faith which was pleasing to YHWH, put faith in God's promises throughout his whole life. No where was it written in law that Abraham could kill his first born given him miraculously by God!
Romans 8:7 because the mind of the flesh is hostile towards God; for it is not subject to God's law, neither indeed can it be.
Nothing on paper, by law, or in human thinking would of allowed for the murder of his son Isaac. Yet, we are told Abraham as good as killed Isaac, his heart was set to follow what God commanded him to do, kill his son! Abraham called upon his many trials by faith, and remember God is good, not evil, although, Abraham had no law telling him the outcome of following God's commandment he did know God was a God of love, keeping his promises.
James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God," for God can't be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. 1:14 But each one is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. 1:15 Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin; and the sin, when it is full grown, brings forth death. 1:16 Don't be deceived, my beloved brothers. 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. 1:18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.
What is the apostle Paul's point here? Simply put, the power of law in a sinful person fleshly mind overwhelms trusting in God as good, and as a Father of love. In fact, its cannot, the flesh is opposed to the mind of Christ, it cannot know the mind of Christ nor be feed by it. Here we have brothers and sisters unwittingly returning to the power of fleshly laws they were set free from in Christ.
Romans 3:20 Because by the works of the law, no flesh will be justified in his sight. For through the law comes the knowledge of sin.
Romans 8:4 that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Such laws gain power by sin, sin than is guilt, allowing control of a person life by men more powerful than they are, power through their positions. Their position is guarded by a hierarchical, a conclave of powerful teachers. This is Paul point, the freedom lost in bring laws of our flesh into the Spirit anointed body of Christ would corrupt it with yeast. Paul argues the obvious that the election of each member of the body of Christ was done by God, not man. In fact, no work a person could do by human efforts got them elected into the body of Christ Jesus, Hence, going back to the law would produce works of law, creating power and positions, but a person would not be in the body of Christ by God's power and election, of God's own love.
Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don't walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.{NU omits "who don't walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit"}
Hence, what they would become is a fleshly minded person hated by God, a worker of lawlessness having no sacrifice for sin left by the blood of Christ; trampling upon God's undeserved kindness to them in freedom returning to the vomit of trying to put away the filth of their own flesh by commandments in self-righteousness, not Christ righteousness.
Romans 8:6 For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace;
Romans 8:7 because the mind of the flesh is hostile towards God; for it is not subject to God's law, neither indeed can it be.
