Daily Bible Thought > Rom.9:27 - A Remnant Saved?

Rom.9:27 Isaiah cries concerning Israel, "If the number of the children of Israel are as the sand of the sea, it is the remnant who will be saved.

Often Christian's read God's word finding it contradictory and confusing. Hence, turning to some religions doctrine to define the thought only to have more questions and confusion. There was only a remnant saved out of Israel. Some would say God planned it that way it was never His intention to save more than a few out all Israel, but this was not the case at all! However, if a person takes the time to read in context Paul's thought in this small portion of his letter to the Roman's Paul will explain why only a remnant was saved?

Romans 10:13 For, "Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved."{Joel 2:32}

Romans 7:6 But now we have been discharged from the law, having died to that in which we were held; so that we serve in newness of the spirit, and not in oldness of the letter.

Romans 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? May it never be! However, I wouldn't have known sin, except through the law. For I wouldn't have known coveting, unless the law had said, "You shall not covet."{Exodus 20:17; Deuteronomy 5:21}

When many of us hear the word “righteousness” in our bibles we assume law, that is, we are trying to be righteous by living up to a rule of law found in our bibles. Moreover, because we find God's laws and commandment's in our bibles, some say, God's word the bible is a righteous book! Righteousness comes from the word being right before God, it is not a book or necessary a law in the bible that is righteous. Hence, when a Jew tried to meet the righteousness of God's law, which formed the nation into Israel, they would find points they could keep, and points they could not keep.

Nevertheless, they missed the whole point of the law, and this is why there were so few actually “saved” out of Israel, do you know why? The law was not created for the sinless person, or the person that did not break God's law, it was factually created for judging sin, declaring us unrighteous, without God making us right. God made sinners right by the gift of innocent blood of animals under the Law.

Titus 3:9 but shun foolish questionings, genealogies, strife, and disputes about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

Romans 7:8 But sin, finding occasion through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of coveting. For apart from the law, sin is dead.

In other words, If you were born into sin you could not keep the law. It was that simply, you were a sinner, and as such, the law could not be kept by a sinner the reward of the law was life for anyone keeping it, but because none could all died of sin. Furthermore, this is why so many Jews failed to be saved, they honestly thought as many modern day Christian's have if they tried to keep God's laws, and/or commandments they could save themselves, hence be righteous. Why would they need Christ Jesus if righteousness came through the law?

1 Timothy 1:7 desiring to be teachers of the law, though they understand neither what they say, nor about what they strongly affirm.

Philippians 3:9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own, that which is of the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith.

This was the point of deception for those Jews, self-rightness by law. However, they failed to understand basic law teaching being teachers of the law, which was the law could not declare a sinner righteous, the blood set one right before God, not works of law. Thus, righteousness had to be imputed too a sinner for them to be right before God. If law was imputed too them they were judge into death. Christ Jesus blood removed the judgment of the law and declared ones righteous by imputing his righteousness to individual having faith in his righteousness and not the laws righteousness. Only a handful of Jews understood their real condition before God while going to the temple for yearly atonement.

Galatians 5:4 You are alienated from Christ, you who desire to be justified by the law. You have fallen away from grace.
