Rom.9:28 for He will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness, because the LORD will make a short work upon the earth."{Isaiah 10:22-23}

No they did not, the old law covenant was cut short, by the death of the Son of God, it finish quickly when compared to thousand's of years of being in existence. No righteousness was found for the nation of Israel as they have imagined would never end. The law did not prove the nation or person in Israel righteous, it was factually instead, the blood of the covenant the declared each person under the right with God. Now God stop quickly the blood atonement, after the resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ.

Here was God/YHWH new righteousness found in the New Covenant instituted by the precious blood of Christ Jesus. Christ became God's righteousness, not the old law and its covenant. Christ became the Gentiles righteousness because Christ had to be pursued by faith. The Gentiles could not go to an earthly temple, or institutions for righteousness, no! They had to go to Christ Jesus, by faith in Spirit and Truth, become part of the greater Spiritual Temple of God the body of Christ Jesus. However, only a small amount of Jews were saved. In other words, out of the millions of Jews for thousand's of years of pursuing righteousness by sight, that is, worshiping at an earthly temple with God's law just a remnant accept Christ Jesus by faith!
Romans 5:17 For if by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one; so much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:18 So then as through one trespass, all men were condemned; even so through one act of righteousness, all men were justified to life.
Let us remember though it is easy to look down on the Jews for missing God's righteousness, it would be in the first 100-years of Christian's faith that they too would walk as the Jews did by sight instead of faith building institution(s) of religion for power and lordship over them, so where today, most Christian's cannot imagine worshiping without them!
Romans 10:4 For Christ is the fulfillment{or, completion, or end} of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
Matthew 13:33 He spoke another parable to them. "The Kingdom of Heaven is like yeast, which a woman took, and hid in three measures{literally, three sata. 3 sata is about 39 litres or a bit more than a bushel} of meal, until it was all leavened."
Matthew 16:6 Jesus said to them, "Take heed and beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees."
