Rom.9:32 Why? Because they didn't seek it by faith, but as it were by works of the law. They stumbled over the stumbling stone; 9:33 even as it is written, "Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and a rock of offense; and no one who believes in him will be disappointed."{Isaiah 8:14; 28:16}
Many religious people get into a competition with other religion's comparing themselves against the doctrine and works of another sect of Christianity, what is the point? Moreover, what is Paul's point here to those early Christian's, it was just that! Christianity is not a competition in competing against another human, or religious organization, but why?
Colossians 3:1 If then you were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God. 3:2 Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are on the earth.
It is because God long ago establishes with finality that all men are sinners needing the Christ, there is no coming up without Christ saving us from our sins. In other words, if all men and woman are dead in their sins what good is it to run a race against a corpse? Why compare death against death, why compare sin against sin, why compare unrighteousness against unrighteousness? What work of law bring us life, if we have been condemned as dead by God's righteous laws below?
Revelation 5:3 No one in heaven above, or on the earth, or under the earth, was able to open the book, or to look in it.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God.
Now you know why Israel did not arrive at righteousness instead stumbling over the Christ (God's righteous for Christian's.), the the Son of God became a rock-mass of offense. You see that is what law does, and rules, and doctrines, they judge us as good or evil, but more importantly they seemingly trick our fleshly mind into making judgments of death, that is, judging what has been decided by Christ life and death two thousand's years ago, which is, no human can be declared righteous by Gods laws, or works of those laws.
Romans 5:14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those whose sins weren't like Adam's disobedience, who is a foreshadowing of him who was to come.
Romans 5:17 For if by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one; so much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ.
Israel mistakenly misjudged their King Christ Jesus by laws that were for sinners, first they had to impute evil too Christ, God's anointed sinless lamb. How does a sinner declare a person who has never sinned a wicked? Next they had to compare their works of law against what Christ was doing in performing God's works by Holy Spirit than they concluded he did not measure up to their high standards according to the God's righteous law. What a mistaken boondoggle, a sinless person is not under laws for sin, God/YHWH was not judging a sinless person, God did not look at His own Son as evil, no! They were confused by a fleshly mind, and judging evil by laws created for condemning and punishing evil of sin in the wicked. Israel had no faith in God's greatest expression of God's love towards them, they did indeed have a wicked eye trained in harsh judgments of each other, and now the Son of God, Christ Jesus.
1Tim.1:9 as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, 1:10 for the sexually immoral, for homosexuals, for slave-traders, for liars, for perjurers, and for any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine.
Luke 11:34 The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore when your eye is good, your whole body is also full of light; but when it is evil, your body also is full of darkness.
Sadly, they compared themselves against a sinless lamb of God by works of law, and condemned themselves in the process!
Romans 6:10 For the death that he died, he died to sin one time; but the life that he lives, he lives to God.
Romans 6:16 Don't you know that to whom you present yourselves as servants to obedience, his servants you are whom you obey; whether of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness?
