MAIN TALK UNDERSTANDING GOD THE SCRIPTURES

Daily Bible Thought > 1Cor.9:19-23 - Cunning Good News?

1Cor.9:19 For though I was free from all, I brought myself under bondage to all, that I might gain the more. 9:20 To the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain those who are under the law; 9:21 to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law. 9:22 To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I may by all means save some. 9:23 Now I do this for the sake of the Good News, that I may be a joint partaker of it.

Many in false religion have uses the apostle Paul's words here to hide some truth about their religion thinking it OK because the person is not yet strong enough to accept the good and bad of their religion. Did Paul actually let some believe a lie in order to snag them into the truth, the Christ?

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the Good News of Christ, for it is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes; for the Jew first, and also for the Greek.

Christ himself ate with those the teachers of Israel thought were unclean, did Christ play bait and switch to-get followers?

Matthew 9:11 When the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?"

First, in context, Paul did not compromise the Christ by saying it was OK to stay under the law, his entire life course lead by Holy Spirit was a restrain against those teaching the law as an obligation upon Christian's so he certainly was not weak on this subject. However, he was very aware of the weakness of others conscience still under the law. Paul's life, was the Christ life working in him, his ministry was not a self-willed obligation to the Good News. It was in fact a life of a servant in the body of Christ.

Galatians 1:7 and there isn't another "good news." Only there are some who trouble you, and want to pervert the Good News of Christ.

Galatians 2:14 But when I saw that they didn't walk uprightly according to the truth of the Good News, I said to Peter before them all, "If you, being a Jew, live as the Gentiles do, and not as the Jews do, why do you compel the Gentiles to live as the Jews do?

Paul's ministry was the Christ ministry don't be confused here, there were not two heads of the body of Christ, two minds that directed the body, Christ, and Paul's. Christ was not working through Paul to deceive people into loving his Father YHWH, Christ spirit in Paul did not use underhanded tactics to gain people for the truth. Christ is the truth, and no lie exist in him, he is love, as YHWH is love, both are not salesmen of truth. However, both understand our infirmity and weakness of our faith and like a doctor works with strong and the weak in comfort each of us into the fulness of the Christ.

1 Thessalonians 1:5 and that our Good News came to you not in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and with much assurance. You know what kind of men we showed ourselves to be among you for your sake.

2 Corinthians 4:2 But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

Would Paul look like a fool to gain someone for the Christ, would Christ be an outcast among the Jew's to gain those loving God, yes, and yes! There is not one point with in the written word that supports a cunning devious ministry in the name of God's love, because love does not work harm toward ones neighbor.

1 Thessalonians 2:13 For this cause we also thank God without ceasing, that, when you received from us the word of the message of God, you accepted it not as the word of men, but, as it is in truth, the word of God, which also works in you who believe.

2 Corinthians 2:17 For we are not as so many, peddling the word of God. But as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God, we speak in Christ.
