Luke.9:60 But Jesus said to him, "Leave the dead to bury their own dead, but you go and announce the Kingdom of God."
Was Christ being hard, indifferent towards people suffering at the death of a friend or a family member? Well, frankly some think so, there can be no greater suffering than a family members death, so why did Christ take such a harsh stand with his disciples? First, let us say, Christ yoke is kindly and light, he suffered in his flesh, common to all mankind, so he became our compassionate High Priest.
Heb.4:15 For we don't have a high priest who can't be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but one who has been in all points tempted like we are, yet without sin. 4:16 Let us therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace for help in time of need.
Like little children, who want mommy and daddy to do something for them, they cannot deal with the long lasting effects of their emotional decision that the parent are in charged of directing and disciplining until they mature into adulthood. These disciples were still under the tutorship of the physical law and not the Spirit which would mature them and teach them all things when dealing with spirit matters.
1 John 2:27 As for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you don't need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him.
Death to the flesh is the end of all things, the flesh can convince itself their more, but it never truly trust there is, just look to the grave yards and the many head stones to reminders a person of someone life, in their not wanting to forget the memory of dead love one. But Christ is not dealing with physical death something he conquered and later upon his Resurrection becoming life for all the dead. Christ was concern with another death, one that was still coming for his disciples, and what death was that? The death of a person sinful flesh by being baptized into the Christ, which meant the person was sinless in God judgment. Not their judgment based upon emotions through judging the evil in a brother or sisters eye. Yes, what is common to all humans is attacking of sin in another person eye, we are doctors and masters at judging evil and sin in others, this is our nature, in face we don't seem to be able to stop judging!
Matt.7:1 "Don't judge, so that you won't be judged. 7:2 For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you. 7:3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but don't consider the beam that is in your own eye? 7:4 Or how will you tell your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye;' and behold, the beam is in your own eye?
So Christ make a profound statement that shocks the natural flow of fleshly thinking, which is: “let the dead bury the dead!” What? How do dead people bury dead people what is the point he is making? Dead people don't work or do anything under the Sun for mankind. Yes, that was the point, how does a dead person to the works of God which are everlasting and life eternal? God is the God of the living and not the dead.
Romans 8:7 because the mind of the flesh is hostile towards God; for it is not subject to God's law, neither indeed can it be.
Romans 8:8 Those who are in the flesh can't please God.
Matthew 22:32 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?'{Exodus 3:6} God is not the God of the dead, but of the living."
If one goes to a dead person and expect good works, than they have mental problems. But if a person goes to alive person and expect good works than they are of sound mind. Here is Christ point, what is death to God? We are speaking about man's emotional outcries for recognition placing his childlike feelings above God's laws, what is dead to God? All those remaining in their sins are dead to God, they cannot do the works of God no matter how deep their feelings are over loving other person dead like themselves in God's eyes.
Romans 6:11 Thus consider yourselves also to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:4 We were buried therefore with him through baptism to death, that just like Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.
The dead here are those under the law of Moses that had not yet accept God provision for life in Christ Jesus. Although, they knew God's word very will and wanted to please God by trying to keep his laws, it was not enough to do God works of law, a person must have the life of Christ Jesus. Shockingly, these fleshly disciples were still defining God works by good done by people considered dead to God because of sin. In other words, if your dead in sin, how can you do works for eternal life without sin? Its like the dead burying the dead, does this mean a lack of feeling and compassion on God part, no! Truth is the issues, the truth is about impartiality and justice for all. If a a person does not understand the truth of God, that sin is death, they cannot understand God's provision for life in Christ Jesus. Eternal life must come from life, this is why Christ is one one seed, and one tree, one body, one source of life that all eternal life comes through Christ is eternal life, making him the father of eternal life replacing Adam became death through sin to all the making Adam a tree of corruption and not life. Adam's life under corruption of sin could not do God's works, all his human effort was not good enough to give eternal life to mankind. 1 Corinthians 15:45 So also it is written, "The first man, Adam, became a living soul."{Genesis 2:7} The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
