1Tim.4:7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables. Exercise yourself toward godliness.

The flesh is not glorified for one of God's anointed not upon this earth, it a vessel that is dead in Christ, and with it comes much tribulation 10-days in the flesh. Once an anointed brothers or sisters of Christ understand this truth they will understand all else written in God's word the bible, being caught up in fables, and heroes, that is, past great men or woman is not salvation, but temporarily acts on this earth of people being glorified in their flesh by men.

Romans 8:10 If Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the spirit is alive because of righteousness.

Romans 6:4 We were buried therefore with him through baptism to death, that just like Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.

Many fall victim to worshiping lesser god's of the flesh past heroes, or trying to make a great name for themselves a legacy of works that will be embellish until the person becomes a god to some future generation. Even religion has its heroes and fables about famous people truth seeker do not. Here Paul was dealing with the onset of such fleshly thinking, but nothing could be further from the truth, why?

Rom.1:21 Because, knowing God, they didn't glorify him as God, neither gave thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 1:23 and traded the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed animals, and creeping things. 1:24 Therefore God also gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves.

1 John 2:15 Don't love the world, neither the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father's love isn't in him.

Simply put, all men are liars not one can save a brother, and reputation found in the fables of the world is no part of God. Christ made it clear that so little would be known about his brothers upon earth that even those doing good towards one of them did not know when they had helped Christ brothers? Moreover, Christ said the world would hate him and his brothers, and could not know them, why? Simply because their spirit and the worlds spirit were not the same, the spirit of this world, and all that in the world the lust of ones flesh for this life and making a name themselves is not of God or Christ. Each brother of Christ is part of Christ life, and not this worlds, and in that life is only one truth with no lie, it is the truth of God through His Son Christ Jesus, and this truth can only be known by God's Spirit not by any other spirit the world has to offer us, lovers of truth.

1 John 4:1 Beloved, don't believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

1 John 3:13 Don't be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you.

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, isn't the Father's, but is the world's.
