John 8:23 He said to them, "You are from beneath. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world.

Christ made a shocking statement to those born into sin, first he catches their stunned attention in saying: “You are from beneath. I am from above.” The Jews must of wondered, how can that be all humans are born from a mother, and father, Christ had a mother, Mary! But Christ was the Son of God not born of this world, that is, from the sin passed on to the human race by one man, Adam. Christ came from above being conceived by God, his Father YHWH, into Mary's womb, he did not have the sins of Adam.

Hebrews 9:14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

In other words, no human born of Adam could redeem, give their life for the human race. God must miraculously provide a new life, a second Adam to step in where the human race failed falling short of God's own glory required for eternal life. However, the Jews thought they were the one righteous people on earth, why? Because they have been given God's law through Moses that is what they believed saved them.

Heb.1:10 And, "You, Lord, in the beginning, laid the foundation of the earth. The heavens are the works of your hands. 1:11 They will perish, but you continue. They all will grow old like a garment does.
1:12 As a mantle, you will roll them up, and they will be changed; but you are the same. Your years will not fail."{Psalm 102:25-27}
1:13 But which of the angels has he told at any time, "Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet?"{Psalm 110:1}

Christ words undid everything they believed for thousand's of years, why was more needed they had a kingdom, God's kingdom upon earth, they had a priesthood, the law, the temple of God. All they were waiting for was a savior of their nation to make them once more the most powerful nation on earth, freeing them from bondage of Roman rule.

Heb. 2:9 But we see him who has been made a little lower than the angels, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that by the grace of God he should taste of death for everyone.

Heb. 7:11 Now if there was perfection through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people have received the law), what further need was there for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, and not be called after the order of Aaron? 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, there is of necessity a change made also in the law.

They needed nothing from Christ they thought they were free of sin
they thought life and paradise came through the nation of Israel upon earth, what was this crazy talk? No! But they were not free of sin, all were dying in their sins from Adam, no! The law did not perfect them as they imagined, more was needed for eternal life, and no! What was needed had to come from above and not from the loins of Adam, something God must give them freely from his love to the human race.

Hebrews 10:1 For the law, having a shadow of the good to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect those who draw near.

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow.

1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love.
