2Pet. 1:10 Therefore, brothers,{The word for "brothers" here and where context allows may also be correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings."} be more diligent to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never stumble. 1:11 For thus you will be richly supplied with the entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. 1:12 Therefore I will not be negligent to remind you of these things, though you know them, and are established in the present truth.
Many today, and from the past have become inactive after set backs to their faith, but sadly, and most often they really missed the point of undeserved kindness from God. The word undeserved and what flows from God unmerited kindness is not truly understood by them. They have established themselves upon their own works, thinking Peters admonishment means the oil must come from them by their efforts through doing some work for a religion, from some regiment or bible reading routine, and/or study, but they find a short supply of oil, they trier out, give up, and become disappointed and inactive thinking they just aren't good enough or others don't appreciated them.
Matthew 25:8 The foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.'
Colossians 2:19 and not holding firmly to the Head, from whom all the body, being supplied and knit together through the joints and ligaments, grows with God's growth.
Jesus told a teacher of Israel whom had much religious education, and bible regiment that the wind blew where it wanted, he further stated, we do not know where the wind comes from, or where it goes? But all those born of Holy Spirit are like the wind! Here Jesus dismissed any “canned” approach to true worship, here he let this teacher of Israel know, one would have to have complete faith in the maker of the wind, unseen as he is - as is the wind.
Ezekiel 37:9 Then said he to me, Prophesy to the wind, prophesy, son of man, and tell the wind, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Come from the four winds, breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.
Ecclesiastes 11:5 As you don't know what is the way of the wind, nor how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child; even so you don't know the work of God who does all.
John 3:8 The wind{The same Greek word (pneuma) means wind, breath, and spirit.} blows where it wants to, and you hear its sound, but don't know where it comes from and where it is going. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit."
One must place faith in God's promises that is our due diligence, without faith one cannot please God. Here is how Peter was expressing the truth, this is how we do not become inactive, but faith in what? Well, by how we got to be born again? Not by man's will, not by our works. No more so than a baby born into a family can say: “I worked real hard to be born into this family!” So how did we get here? Please don't hold your breathe like a new born baby, by God's undeserved kindness! This truth, this promise is being refined in us into pure gold of our faith perfected by test. We must believe, in God's kindness, which we did not deserve, which he is not lording over us by some self good effort on our part, which he has freely given us because he is good, righteous, and above all else love.
Luke 19:22 "He said to him, 'Out of your own mouth will I judge you, you wicked servant! You knew that I am an exacting man, taking up that which I didn't lay down, and reaping that which I didn't sow.
James 1:2 Count it all joy, my brothers{The word for "brothers" here and where context allows may also be correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings."}, when you fall into various temptations, 1:3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 1:4 Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. 1:5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.
Can we honestly rest in this? Can we stop trying to be good enough and rest from our works of self-justification? Can we believe even in a drought, when our oil supply is low that God's is love, which unfailing love is expressed in his kindness that can never be lost? Can we believe the wind comes and it goes where it wants, but the maker of us has not forgotten us? He will not leave us dry into death. Can we honestly believe God through Christ Jesus is building our faith by his will and not our own? That we are his works, and season come and they go, but none without purpose and direction for our eternal life for God's glory? Do you have faith in these things? If so, than refinement will come which test will remove all dross of self-worship, man-worship, only true faith in God's promises will not trier out and grow weary.
Isa.40:5 The glory of Yahweh shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of Yahweh has spoken it." 40:6 The voice of one saying, "Cry!" One said, "What shall I cry?" "All flesh is like grass, and all its glory is like the flower of the field. 40:7 The grass withers, the flower fades, because Yahweh's breath blows on it. Surely the people are like grass. 40:8 The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God stands forever."
Isa. 40:18 To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare to him?
Isa.40:25 "To whom then will you liken me? Who is my equal?" says the Holy One. 40:26 Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these, who brings out their army by number. He calls them all by name. by the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power, Not one is lacking. 40:27 Why do you say, Jacob, and speak, Israel, "My way is hidden from Yahweh, and the justice due me is disregarded by my God?" 40:28 Haven't you known? Haven't you heard? The everlasting God, Yahweh, The Creator of the ends of the earth, doesn't faint. He isn't weary. His understanding is unsearchable. 40:29 He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. 40:30 Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall; 40:31 But those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.
