Romans 8:7 because the mind of the flesh is hostile towards God; for it is not subject to God's law, neither indeed can it be.
Can the flesh be fair? Many would say, yes! But can the flesh be fair towards God? No it cannot! The flesh cannot show fairness towards God, or render fair justice towards God, and if you believe the bible the flesh cannot even know God, so how can it be fair towards God?
Romans 8:12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
Romans 13:14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.
A righteous new heavens and earth will not come through the flesh, so let us qualify what the flesh is when the bible speaks about it? It is the fleshly mind, and its thinking passed on to all humans through Adam's sin. It is hostile towards God, it cannot be in subjection to God's righteous laws, or to God's law of love. Why? Because those born into sin cannot keep either law because they are sinners, so they must be redeemed by God. The spirit of the fallen flesh is hostile at war with the Spirit of God, one kills the other! So instead of man being fair, God Himself must be fair, and justice towards sinners redeeming them, and forgiving them, but the flesh imputes evil towards God and other humans because the spirit of the flesh envies.
Galatians 5:16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you won't fulfill the lust of the flesh. 5:17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire.
Here is an example: A reality TV program features fisherman competing to be the top fishing boat. Each captain of the boat has over the years marked spots where they caught fish, they mark those spots with their GPS so they can return to them, which spots are called “numbers” to catch fish. Often one of other boats steals those numbers, and fish on them. When the captain goes to his spot finding another boat on his spot, the fight and name calling ensues.
Matt.7:1 "Don't judge, so that you won't be judged. 7:2 For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you. 7:3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but don't consider the beam that is in your own eye? 7:4 Or how will you tell your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye;' and behold, the beam is in your own eye?
However, what is most striking is not that the captain with the numbers is outrages that another boat stole his spot! But rather he himself has within a few days done the same thing. However, his stealing of numbers is justified by some line of good reasoning, which makes its OK that he took someone else numbers, just as long as it not done to him than that is unfair! So is the flesh fair? Shockingly no! All the captain's are caught on camera contradicting their own words and actions! Moreover, they are caught on camera imputing evil towards the other captains, but when in person they changes their whole tune. Shockingly, they can view the whole season on TV, and do the very same conduct the next season on TV!
Romans 2:13 For it isn't the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be justified
Romans 3:10 As it is written, "There is no one righteous; no, not one.
Sadly, this conduct is acceptable to most humans, but is it to God, is this his standards? No! And this is why the flesh is hostel to God laws, and cannot be in subjection to them. God kills our flesh, and its deceptive desires giving us the truth Christ Jesus life that indwells us, and this is why we are told the Spirit is truth, and not the spirit of the flesh. Furthermore, this is why all men are liars. In other words, the flesh because of sin speaks one thing to us human but acts differently out the present of other flesh.
John 5:41 I don't receive glory from men.
John 5:44 How can you believe, who receive glory from one another, and you don't seek the glory that comes from the only God?
John 7:18 He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
So the scriptures define the actions of both flesh and Spirit for us, what we should never do, is think because we speak or write words from the bible we don't act in our flesh, and its lust at times that would make us a liar. James tells us the truth about the spirit found in our members, he does not say he is an exception, he is telling us that we have both, so let us not lie about it, and speak against the truth, promoting our ways are always pure, like the captains of the fishing boats do, in not examining their own conduct while examining the conduct of other fleshly captain's, which flesh is not fair anyway! Truth is Christ, we judge ourselves correctly against the Christ, so we may act reasonably with others in truth of both the good and bad in us.
James 4:5 Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, "The Spirit who lives in us yearns jealously"? 4:6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."{Proverbs 3:34}
John 3:21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his works may be revealed, that they have been done in God."
1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.
James 3:14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don't boast and don't lie against the truth.
James 1:20 for the anger of man doesn't produce the righteousness of God. 1:21 Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls{or, preserve your life.}. 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves. 1:23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror; 1:24 for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 1:25 But he who looks into the perfect law of freedom, and continues, not being a hearer who forgets, but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does. 1:26 If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn't bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man's religion is worthless.
