Daily Bible Thought > John.2:1-10 - Marriage Fest, New Wine

John.2:1 The third day, there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee. Jesus' mother was there. 2:2 Jesus also was invited, with his disciples, to the marriage. 2:3 When the wine ran out, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no wine." 2:4 Jesus said to her, "Woman, what does that have to do with you and me? My hour has not yet come." 2:5 His mother said to the servants, "Whatever he says to you, do it." 2:6 Now there were six water pots of stone set there after the Jews' manner of purifying, containing two or three metretes{2 to 3 metretes is about 20 to 30 U. S. Gallons, 16 to 25 imperial gallons, or 75 to 115 litres.} apiece. 2:7 Jesus said to them, "Fill the water pots with water." They filled them up to the brim. 2:8 He said to them, "Now draw some out, and take it to the ruler of the feast." So they took it. 2:9 When the ruler of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and didn't know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the ruler of the feast called the bridegroom, 2:10 and said to him, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and when the guests have drunk freely, then that which is worse. You have kept the good wine until now!" 2:11 This beginning of his signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

Our Father in Heaven has promised us that he is creating all things new, new upon earth, and in heaven, for faithful and true are his words to us! The beginning of Christ ministry sets the stage for all things being made new, and not from man's hands, but the hand of God, here the first would be last and last would be first, or we say: “The best is yet to come!”

Revelation 21:5 He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." He said, "Write, for these words of God are faithful and true."

By this profound miracle Jesus sets the stage before those with ears to hear the truth. Israel was long in being prepared for a marriage feast with God, united with him by one Spirit, not one flesh, the wine of the law was good, but the best wine was yet to come with the outpouring of Holy Spirit into hearts of God's children, birth from the life of Christ upon his resurrection (new wine). Israel drink wine, wine the physical nation grew, for thousand's of years under the law, they celebrated the day when they would be delivered from all nations of the earth, waiting their delivery, the Messiah to come, they had a marriage arrangement with God in a covenant sealed by blood, but they had not known the bride groom the delivery of Israel.

John 1:41 He first found his own brother, Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah!" (which is, being interpreted, Christ{"Messiah" (Hebrew) and "Christ" (Greek) both mean "Anointed One".}).

John 4:25 The woman said to him, "I know that Messiah comes," (he who is called Christ). "When he has come, he will declare to us all things."

Luke 5:37 No one puts new wine into old wineskins, or else the new wine will burst the skins, and it will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed.

Luke 5:38 But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.

Luke 22:20 Likewise, he took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

They had not been released from the headship of the law their physical husbandly owner, he was dying, they were to be released from the power of his headship sin, for the power the law is sin, they were to be prepared as a nation to received all things new, like the new wine Jesus created from Holy Spirit for this marriage feast that even the director of the feast knew not where it came from? Jesus ministry was like the wind, blowing where its wants, not knowing were the wind came from or where is was going? All things were being created new, birth not from earth, but heaven, not seen by human eye.

John 3:3 Jesus answered him, "Most certainly, I tell you, unless one is born anew,{The word translated "anew" here and in John 3:7 (anothen) also means "again" and "from above".} he can't see the Kingdom of God." 3:4 Nicodemus said to him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb, and be born?" 3:5 Jesus answered, "Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born of water and spirit, he can't enter into the Kingdom of God!

John.3:8 The wind{The same Greek word (pneuma) means wind, breath, and spirit.} blows where it wants to, and you hear its sound, but don't know where it comes from and where it is going. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit." 3:9 Nicodemus answered him, "How can these things be?"

Rom. 7:1 Or don't you know, brothers{The word for "brothers" here and where context allows may also be correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings."} (for I speak to men who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man for as long as he lives?
7:2 For the woman that has a husband is bound by law to the husband while he lives, but if the husband dies, she is discharged from the law of the husband.
7:3 So then if, while the husband lives, she is joined to another man, she would be called an adulteress. But if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she is joined to another man. 7:4 Therefore, my brothers, you also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you would be joined to another, to him who was raised from the dead, that we might bring forth fruit to God.

1Cor.15:56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

Old (first) was being replaced with new (last), the first, Israel would be last, what did this mean? Those born of Spirit, and not the flesh, had their sins removed, by Christ the complete answer, which the law could not provide (being weak) for it was created for the wicked to punishes and condemn sin in our flesh, but it could not remove sin from our flesh because it was not the finish works of God. Christ was the finish works of God in redeeming mankind from sin. Christ life was sinless human life, not sinless animal life, which animal cannot sin against God's moral laws, for they are not created by God to be moral souls to keep his laws. Thus, making their blood only a temporary atonement for man sins.

Hebrews 10:4 For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins.

Hebrews 9:22 According to the law, nearly everything is cleansed with blood, and apart from shedding of blood there is no remission.

2 Corinthians 13:4 For he was crucified through weakness, yet he lives through the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we will live with him through the power of God toward you.

Galatians 4:9 But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, why do you turn back again to the weak and miserable elemental principles, to which you desire to be in bondage all over again?

Hebrews 8:13 In that he says, "A new covenant," he has made the first old. But that which is becoming old and grows aged is near to vanishing away.

Now the bridegroom was standing at the door, he would open up a new and living hope saving the best wine (Holy Spirit) until last. He would be gentle and kind, husband, full of compassion and joy, once the old was completed, the best was yet to come filling each person heart born again with life giving waters of Holy Spirit they would be overflowing with everlasting joy, they would change from Christ mother ordering the Christ to get more wine, to Christ the new covenant saying: “What does this have to do with you or me?” I am not the old covenant, it has no hold on me, I am not in a marriage relationship with the law.” No! Christ was not a sinner under the headship of flesh and blood needing atonement for sin, by animal blood!

Acts 2:11 Cretans and Arabians: we hear them speaking in our languages the mighty works of God!" 2:12 They were all amazed, and were perplexed, saying one to another, "What does this mean?"
2:13 Others, mocking, said, "They are filled with new wine."
2:14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spoke out to them, "You men of Judea, and all you who dwell at Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to my words.
2:15 For these aren't drunken, as you suppose, seeing it is only the third hour of the day{about 9:00 AM}. 2:16 But this is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel: 2:17 'It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. 2:18 Yes, and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days, I will pour out my Spirit, and they will prophesy.

Christ was the greater, he was under the headship of God himself, indwelling him as the light of the world, nothing old came from him, he was creating all things new, just as the Holy Spirit is never past living in death, Holy Spirit cannot live in sins of the past, all in Christ live, it is life which is Holy Spirit from God is life, now! When the old had been drink dry (the law) in full measure Christ would appear as creator of new wine from heaven (new covenant), and not earth, no one could says they knew how Christ created new wine from water? none could say they knew how they were born anew!

Revelation 21:1 I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth have passed away, and the sea is no more.

Revelation 21:2 I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready like a bride adorned for her husband.

Hebrews 12:24 to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant,{Jeremiah 31:31} and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better than that of Abel.

Hebrews 10:20 by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

Ephesians 2:15 having abolished in the flesh the hostility, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man of the two, making peace;

Ephesians 4:24 and put on the new man, who in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.

Here at the beginning of his ministry Christ shows those with eyes of Spirit and truth, how his ministry would go, preparing them for the reality of entering into God's Kingdom, not by the direction or will of man, but by the miracle of God's hand, into a new heavens and earth. All whom had faith in the power of Christ would know the truth and the truth, Christ Jesus, by his life would set them free.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.

Luke 22:20 Likewise, he took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

John 13:34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, just like I have loved you; that you also love one another.
