Matt.12:14 But the Pharisees went out, and conspired against him, how they might destroy him. 12:15 Jesus, perceiving that, withdrew from there. Great multitudes followed him; and he healed them all, 12:16 and commanded them that they should not make him known: 12:17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying, 12:18 "Behold, my servant whom I have chosen; my beloved in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my Spirit on him. He will proclaim justice to the nations. 12:19 He will not strive, nor shout; neither will anyone hear his voice in the streets.
Let us start with fundamental truth always, which is, what is the condition of us as sinners? If we can figure that out, we will than see ourselves in relationship to God. We will not take ourselves so seriously, moreover, we will learn there are some things we cannot fix as sinners letting us allow God to do his work in us. Here we see the systemic nature of sin in all of us, and what is that? The Jewish teacher were jealous of Christ gaining followers, which should not surprise us because we all sin, and we all have a spirit of flesh that longs to envy which we must war against.
James 4:1 Where do wars and fightings among you come from? Don't they come from your pleasures that war in your members? 4:2 You lust, and don't have. You kill, covet, and can't obtain. You fight and make war. You don't have, because you don't ask. 4:3 You ask, and don't receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures. 4:4 You adulterers and adulteresses, don't you know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 4:5 Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, "The Spirit who lives in us yearns jealously"?
But Christ on the other hand, had a different Spirit in him, one that did not strive with flesh, and/or others out of fear of losing! Yes, Christ had the Spirit of God in him that does not live in fear of losing control of some possession like the Jewish teachers did here. Christ was not going to destroy a spiritual life for fear all sin has in human. Fearing his words would not be heard and some would perish, or his numbers would look bad to other religions.
John 10:26 But you don't believe, because you are not of my sheep, as I told you. 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 10:28 I give eternal life to them. They will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 10:29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of my Father's hand.
Christ knew what many Christian's don't today, and what is that? That God is more concern with salvation than sinful flesh could every imagine. Not one hair of a person head the heavenly Father does not know, or takes concern with. At God's command billions of powerful angles are conducting work for him, so not one person seeking God will be handed a serpent, and perish. But like these Jews whom warred with flesh out of jealous and anger to make a disciple, traversing seas if necessary for fear of judgment, which is a lack of faith, in God's love, they instead taught flesh creating one more weed disciple, with the same fruit!
Matthew 18:10 See that you don't despise one of these little ones, for I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.
Heb.1:13 But which of the angels has he told at any time, "Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet?"{Psalm 110:1} 1:14 Aren't they all serving spirits, sent out to do service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?
Those wrangling, fighting, and shouting over God, are of the flesh, not of truth and Spirit. They live in fear, and know not the God of love. They contended with flesh, controlling, and defeating it, thinking they are doing the works of God. They put faith in numbers, as all flesh does, they compare themselves against other unrighteous flesh thinking their judgment our God's righteous judgments. They are not motives by love, as Christ was; and what does being motivated by love mean? Does it mean fear of that some other religion is looking better? Does it mean that someone we don't like gets more disciples? Is that the Spirit of God?
Hebrews 13:6 So that with good courage we say, "The Lord is my helper. I will not fear. What can man do to me?"{Psalm 118:6-7}
2 Timothy 1:7 For God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.
No! Love is not motivated at all by fear, it is proven in faith, that is, trusting God is not wicked like sinful human are. It is motivated by complete trust that God will uses a person to do his will, out of His love for us, even if they did not wanted too. It is trust God loves mankind because he created them and will not fail in his love for them. It is trust that we are saved by him, not that we save him by our great work!
Romans 8:15 For you didn't receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, "Abba{Abba is an Aramaic word for father or daddy, often used affectionately and respectfully in prayer to our Father in heaven.}! Father!"
James 3:14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don't boast and don't lie against the truth. 3:15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic. 3:16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed. 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. 3:18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
