Rom.8:3 For what the law couldn't do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God did, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh; 8:4 that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
What was it that the law couldn't do? Moreover, why was the law weak through the flesh? Furthermore does it matter to us in understanding and serving Christ?
James 4:11 Don't speak against one another, brothers. He who speaks against a brother and judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge.
Was the law weak? No! The law was not weak, it was righteous, good, and spiritual, in fact, it was perfect for what it was created to do, and what was that? It was created by God, the perfect God of justice to condemn, convicted, and punishes sinners. It was created truthfully for the wicked, and evil acts by people violating God's righteous laws. It is just that simple! But that's not what Paul spoke of here, as being weak; so what was weak? The flesh! Not the law from a perfect God, but the flesh sold into, lets read this slowly again “sold into sin” and death that is what was weak, flesh!
Romans 2:13 For it isn't the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be justified
Romans 3:10 As it is written, "There is no one righteous; no, not one.
The law had a reward if a person could keep it without sin, and what was that reward? Eternal life, why? Because the law did not judge a sinless person did you know that? It could not, because it was created for what purposes, sinners, and not the righteous without sin. This truth offends many Christian's living in their flesh under sin, and in judgment of their flesh by its mind; they simple can't comprehend in this state of sinlessness, the truth of God's words, Paul speaks too here in Christ.
1Tim.1:9 as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, 1:10 for the sexually immoral, for homosexuals, for slave-traders, for liars, for perjurers, and for any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine;
The adoption of being a son of God does not put a person into a religion, or a organization, nor into ones own life. It puts a person into Christ life, as a body member. Those in Christ are not the mind of his body, which they are a member therein sharing his sinless life - for the bodies purposes. Once adopted by God into Christ they have the mind of Christ, not the mind of their flesh making them double minded. Moreover, they are no longer under the judgment of sinful flesh, and/or the judgments of the fleshly mind, those workings are dead to God and must be too them. These works from death of the fleshly mind are dead works!
Heb. 6:1 Therefore leaving the doctrine of the first principles of Christ, let us press on to perfection--not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works, of faith toward God, 6:2 of the teaching of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 6:3 This will we do, if God permits.
This weakness of continually living in the flesh dead in Christ and doing its works, which works means judging the flesh already dead in Christ is pointless! It produces nothing for them spiritually, for life in Christ, that is, with Christ in heaven. Christ mind produces spiritual works without sin; his works are God's works which never perish. These works come from the mind of Christ, they are the building blocks sustaining spiritual life, the life freely given to God's anointed. The fleshly mind cannot give a person the bread of life that all of God's anointed must feed on and live by, they must live by every word coming from God's mouth! This where life is found; words found in Christ Jesus coming from his mouth for those in his house under the mind and spiritual voice from his headship alone.
Rom.7:4 Therefore, my brothers, you also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you would be joined to another, to him who was raised from the dead, that we might bring forth fruit to God. 7:5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were through the law, worked in our members to bring forth fruit to death.
Rom.7:8 But sin, finding occasion through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of coveting. For apart from the law, sin is dead.
Life comes to God's anointed because Christ has done away with flesh being judged by God's law that could not perfect the flesh because of its inherent weakness of sin. In other words, If Christian's cannot understand this truth, they are not born of Holy Spirit, they may think they are by scriptural knowledge, but they are not freed in Christ life by Holy Spirit; freed from sins judgment by the very fact they continue in death judgments, in a constant state of judging flesh by God's righteous laws. Which actions is proof they are not in Christ, and are alienated from God by their flesh. This statements is shocking to the fleshly mind person, why?
Ephesians 4:18 being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their hearts;
Galatians 5:4 You are alienated from Christ, you who desire to be justified by the law. You have fallen away from grace.
Because truth is revealed by Holy Spirit, and taught by Holy Spirit in God's children. However, those of the fleshly mind think their judgments by a spiritual law given by God is from Christ mind coming from his body members and not their own fleshly mind. Which is flesh dead works and thinking is filthy before God because it cannot be put away by works of law. Furthermore, which filth cannot be put away by judgments by God's perfect laws in judging others. No! It cannot be done, why? Because the law was not created for the righteous (Christ), but the unrighteous(sinful humans from Adam). It cannot rewards a sinful person by its judgments it can only kill them to life with God, proving they have not received the reward of the law because they are a convicted sinner by perfection the law!
1 Peter 3:21 This is a symbol of baptism, which now saves you--not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
Hebrews 7:19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.
Hebrews 10:1 For the law, having a shadow of the good to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect those who draw near.
Many Christian's cannot get beyond this point, and here is why? If you are a sinner there nothing on earth or in the bible that can make you a person without sin. There is no good work you can do, to remove the sin you have been born into. One must die in their sins and be recreated into a sinless body, having a sinless mind, without the unrighteous judgments of the flesh that are for the wicked bring works of death. What mind do Christian's have? The old one created in sin, or a new one given them from God in being recreated into Christ body having a new mind without sin?
Matt.7:16 By their fruits you will know them. Do you gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? 7:17 Even so, every good tree produces good fruit; but the corrupt tree produces evil fruit.
James 3:10 Out of the same mouth comes forth blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. 3:11 Does a spring send out from the same opening fresh and bitter water? 3:12 Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh water. 3:13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom. 3:14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don't boast and don't lie against the truth.
This is Paul's point, many Christian's think because works of laws person (fleshly), they can make themselves righteous by judging their flesh, and/or that of others; think such actions puts them into the mind of Christ, but this is a lie! They are deceived not by the righteousness of God's law (perfect and not weak), but instead by their own righteousness (weak by sinful flesh), believing they can be righteous by doing works of law, in trying to keep what imperfect flesh cannot keep (perfection of law), makes them righteous, this is a grand and paramount lie! Thus, they fall into into a pattern of self-deception by of their emotions (fleshly), believing their love for God's righteous laws, and their zeal in upholding God's laws accounts them righteous, and in Christ, this is a profound lie of the fleshly mind tricked us by God's righteous law (perfect); thinking it can remove sin by keeping it, making them a non-sinner by works of law.
Luke 18:10 "Two men went up into the temple to pray; one was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector. 18:11 The Pharisee stood and prayed to himself like this: 'God, I thank you, that I am not like the rest of men, extortioners, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 18:12 I fast twice a week. I give tithes of all that I get.' 18:13 But the tax collector, standing far away, wouldn't even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner!' 18:14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."
Birth is not based upon works, good, or bad, it is a process we have no control over. So one cannot boast in putting themselves into Christ by some zeal for God and his righteousness. The new birth coming from God into Christ as a new creation comes from God's purposes that we as human are not entitled to, or judge, by the fleshly mind (weak) which is dead towards God's, and his children.
Rom.8:28 We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. 8:29 For whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.{The word for "brothers" here and where context allows may also be correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings."} 8:30 Whom he predestined, those he also called. Whom he called, those he also justified. Whom he justified, those he also glorified. 8:31 What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 8:32 He who didn't spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how would he not also with him freely give us all things? 8:33 Who could bring a charge against God's chosen ones? It is God who justifies. 8:34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, yes rather, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.
Sins is weakness that cannot keep perfection, its impossible! Moreover, its impossible for God to lie about this truth. Perfection is the law, the weakness is in our flesh, which is, here, the entire argument Paul gives in Roman's the eighth chapter. Christ came to do away with the judgment of our flesh (the weakness), because we could not meet the perfection of God's righteous law. This is called unmerited kindness, and/or undeserved kindness, it is not called kindness from God by proving ourselves as God's children by works of law.
John 6:28 They said therefore to him, "What must we do, that we may work the works of God?" 6:29 Jesus answered them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent."
John 6:45 It is written in the prophets, 'They will all be taught by God.'{Isaiah 54:13} Therefore everyone who hears from the Father, and has learned, comes to me. 6:46 Not that anyone has seen the Father, except he who is from God. He has seen the Father. 6:47 Most certainly, I tell you, he who believes in me has eternal life. 6:48 I am the bread of life.
Ephesians 3:20 Now to him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. Galatians 3:2 I just want to learn this from you. Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by hearing of faith?
The gift of undeserved kindness of unfathomable love is not understood by our fleshly mind that is set upon evil and wickedness in judging ourselves and others as unworthy of meeting God's law. The fleshly mind is death, not life, it is Christ mind that is life, and it is given in a birth not of our will, or by our thoughts, nor our works, but by God's love. The flesh mind is dead to God, and in understanding the spirit mind of Christ, the fleshly mind cannot please God because is our works, which works of sin are alienated from God's mind of life.
Ephesians 1:11 in whom also we were assigned an inheritance, having been foreordained according to the purpose of him who works all things after the counsel of his will.
Romans 9:11 For being not yet born, neither having done anything good or bad, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him who calls,
Romans 13:12 The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let's therefore throw off the works of darkness, and let's put on the armor of light.
