Daily Bible Thought > Matt.12:22-32 - Cast Out Demons By Beelzebul!

Matt.12:22 Then one possessed by a demon, blind and mute, was brought to him and he healed him, so that the blind and mute man both spoke and saw. 12:23 All the multitudes were amazed, and said, "Can this be the son of David?" 12:24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, "This man does not cast out demons, except by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons." 12:25 Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. 12:26 If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? 12:27 If I by Beelzebul cast out demons, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges. 12:28 But if I by the Spirit of God cast out demons, then the Kingdom of God has come upon you. 12:29 Or how can one enter into the house of the strong man, and plunder his goods, unless he first bind the strong man? Then he will plunder his house. 12:30 "He who is not with me is against me, and he who doesn't gather with me, scatters. 12:31 Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. 12:32 Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, neither in this age, nor in that which is to come.

It is one thing not to except a person claims in using God's Holy Spirit by doing some work than to oppose the work trying to stop the person. What were the Jews protecting here just like all governments do? Power, control, position of authority, certainly not the spiritual health of Israel. This cloak of righteousness was merely a ploy to make sure no one took their position as teachers of Israel.

John 5:44 How can you believe, who receive glory from one another, and you don't seek the glory that comes from the only God?

John 7:18 He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

Jesus presented a case that convicts the Pharisee's of evil motives in trying to entrap Christ into sinning against the laws of God. How does one cast out Satan by Satan? And if thats possible, who were their children casting out demon's by? In other words, could a person tell the difference, and shouldn't a teacher of Israel know the difference, and by what means?

Matt.5:37 But let your 'Yes' be 'Yes' and your 'No' be 'No.' Whatever is more than these is of the evil one.

Now if they were to say yes we know the difference, they would be convicted of lying about God's Holy Spirit working through Christ in casting out this demon. But if they were to lie calling it Satan's work they than they had convicted the Holy Spirit of sinning with the Devil. Christ was to give his apostles power to cast out demon in his name. Christ as king of Israel had the authority given him by God YHWH to give his apostles the power in doing powerful works in his name. Later upon the outpouring of Holy Spirit many would receive the power and gifts of Holy Spirit to cast out demons. So much so, we find Christ warning that many would use his name unlawfully to cast out demon, but Christ did not recognize their authority in doing so.

Matt.7:21 Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 7:22 Many will tell me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, didn't we prophesy in your name, in your name cast out demons, and in your name do many mighty works?' 7:23 Then I will tell them, 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you who work iniquity.'

Christ states a truth that seem a contradiction, one place he implies that Satan cannot cast out his own, or he is divided against himself, his house in divided not united. Than he states many would think they were casting demons out by Christ own name, but he refused to claim those works in his name? What are we to make of this apparent contradiction? Why would Satan promote a lie that ones were casting out demons in Christ name, when he was actually helping them to powerful works?

2 Corinthians 11:14 And no wonder, for even Satan masquerades as an angel of light.

The answer is found throughout the bible, it is no mystery. Satan stole God's rightful position over mankind by a lie. Satan has stolen everything God has given his people to build his own kingdoms on earth using the power of religion, that is, its moral goodness by righteous law to build his kingdoms. Humans want to please and worship God as they were created in God's image. Satan knows that power and gives a false illusion to those believing the lie in loving this world over faith in God which means in glorifying themselves upon earth like the world.

1Cor.4:3 Even if our Good News is veiled, it is veiled in those who perish; 4:4 in whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the Good News of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn on them. 4:5 For we don't preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake;

We must take note that when Christ called these workers of lawlessness into account they stated what all false religion states, and what is that? “Look at the powerful works I have done in your name!” Why is this important? It is important because that is Satan illusion that mislead the nations by false religion which is? If a person does good works, the good works atones for their evil works of sinning. This merit system is what these Jews were on when filing accusation against the Son of God good works, calling good, evil, which is the very tools Satan has always used to deceive humans.

Matt.7:15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves. 7:16 By their fruits you will know them. Do you gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? 7:17 Even so, every good tree produces good fruit; but the corrupt tree produces evil fruit. 7:18 A good tree can't produce evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree produce good fruit.

Does a good work earn merit with God for the next life? However, Christ said those powerful works were not his good works, but where instead deeds of lawless. He had not been given them power from the kingdom laws to use Christ Jesus name as powerful, so they were without law, that is, lawless!

1 John 3:4 Everyone who sins also commits lawlessness. Sin is lawlessness.

In other words, these Jews were self-righteous they lived by works of law instead of faith. They judged Christ by works of law, stating he had power from Satan, and he was working in concert with the Devil. Why? Because they could not pass judgment upon good works, which was their own justification used in atoning for their sins. There works that they were doing seemingly gave them standing with God, i.e., merit! In others words, proving to others they had standing with God for honor and power. Which is why they hated Christ he made them look bad by comparing good works, just as Cain did Abel, and all false religion practices!

Genesis 4:5 but he didn't respect Cain and his offering. Cain was very angry, and the expression on his face fell.

Genesis 4:6 Yahweh said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why has the expression of your face fallen?

Genesis 4:8 Cain said to Abel, his brother, "Let's go into the field." It happened when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel, his brother, and killed him.

Those doing God's powerful works has to be accounted sinless, by the power of blood, not by their personal good works. If Christ good works were evil what than did that mean for their children's powerful works done for God, whom did the same good works Christ had performed? Good works were not the standard of God's law, it was first and always atonement so our works could be done for God, never the other way around. Good works by merit is first for our self-glory, not first God's glory by his great mercies. Works done in sin, are lawless, not atone for by blood. So the teachings of these Pharisee's convicted them of self-righteousness by good works, not the proper rule of law by atonement by God's mercy in giving the life of innocent victims so they would not be lawless before God.

1 John 3:14 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. He who doesn't love his brother remains in death.

1 John 3:15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.

1 John 3:16 By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.

Now if a person is not authorized by God through forgiveness of sin by blood sacrifice than whom are they actually working for? If works are the meter to judge our atonement by, than the Pharisee's are woefully lacking in self-atonement because none of them did the works Christ was performing for God while upon earth. On all accounts they convicted themselves with the charged of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit!

Moreover, what of a man that never did a good work for God, but put faith in Christ Jesus, is their hope of eternal life for such a one? So those Christian's judging and comparing themselves before flesh and blood by boasting in their works, must ask: “have I done enough good works to buy my way into paradise?” Or are they like the thief on stake/cross who puts faith in Christ good works, as having the merit to redeem him, when asking Christ to remember him when he gets into his kingdom?

John 10:1 "Most certainly, I tell you, one who doesn't enter by the door into the sheep fold, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

Luke.WS."
23:39 One of the criminals who was hanged insulted him, saying, "If you are the Christ, save yourself and us!" 23:40 But the other answered, and rebuking him said, "Don't you even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? 23:41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong." 23:42 He said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when you come into your Kingdom." 23:43 Jesus said to him, "Assuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise."
