Eph.2:14 For he is our peace, who made both one, and broke down the middle wall of partition, 2:15 having abolished in the flesh the hostility, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man of the two, making peace; 2:16 and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, having killed the hostility thereby.
What is the fleshes hostility? Most of us Christian's have no idea, we have good feelings towards God, and we believe our flesh is at peace with God, but is it?
Romans 8:7 because the mind of the flesh is hostile towards God; for it is not subject to God's law, neither indeed can it be.
Nothing within the written word of God glorifies our flesh or even tells us it can be in subjection to God, the Spirit, did you know that? First, let us have a clear understanding of this subject, it is important because all of us have flesh, which makes this subject very personal, right?
Romans 8:8 Those who are in the flesh can't please God.
Why is our flesh hostile to God? Because in our flesh is sin, sin corrupt us into death, it also makes us unrighteous, and in darkness to God's Spirit. Subsequently, those in sin, are dead to God the Spirit, did you know that? Now religion has made this subject very personal and upsetting to most people by implying, no actually teaching that you as a human can remove sin by obeying the commandments, the apostle Paul just said above we cannot, did you know that?
1 Peter 3:21 This is a symbol of baptism, which now saves you--not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Titus 3:5 not by works of righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy, he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit.
As long as there is sin in us we cannot be reconciled to God, we are at war with his righteousness, meaning he has not sin. But sin cannot be removed by human efforts, no more than polluted water can make itself clean. In other words, God must do something to cleanses us from sin, just as man must do something to cleanses the pollution from water, it takes outside help. Now religion would have us believe one can cleanses themselves of sin by good works, that is, doing certain works the bible talks about will remove our sins, and give us a credit card with God to cash in at our death. However, as stated this is not a bible teaching, it is a lie, one used by religion to enslave a person to a certain religious group.
Romans 3:20 Because by the works of the law, no flesh will be justified in his sight. For through the law comes the knowledge of sin.
Romans 4:4 Now to him who works, the reward is not counted as grace, but as debt.
James 3:11 Does a spring send out from the same opening fresh and bitter water? 3:12 Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh water. 3:13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom. 3:14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don't boast and don't lie against the truth.
Christ by giving us his life killed the power of sin, death, and the guilt that we are sinners. We could not be free of judgment without God's help, we could not be free of sin without Christ giving us his precious life. Payment had to be made by God, not human by doing good works.
Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don't walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.{NU omits "who don't walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit"}
Romans 8:3 For what the law couldn't do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God did, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh;
The wall was the law because the wall reflected the truth of us as a sinner, we and/or the Israelites had to peer into the perfect wall of justice condemning sin, shutting anyone mouth whom thought they stood righteous by their own goodness. Christ fulfilled the law by his own perfect life, that is, the one person without sin, was rewarded eternal life by keeping the law perfectly without sin. The law could not condemn a sinless person because the law was not created for righteous person. Hence, Christ life fulfilled the law, than he gave us his life blood to cleanses us from sin once for all times.
Romans 3:19 Now we know that whatever things the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God.
1Tim.1:9 as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, 1:10 for the sexually immoral, for homosexuals, for slave-traders, for liars, for perjurers, and for any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine;
But the point many of us miss in Paul statements above, it is the life of Christ that becomes our righteousness, not us, or our flesh, but his spirit life indwelling us, as us being made part of his life, that is, one body not many bodies, but Christ one body we are freed of sin. Our flesh is dead to God, buried in Christ seen no more as us, but us in Christ Jesus is how we are accounted in Christ to God.
1Cor.1:29 that no flesh should boast before God. 1:30 But of him, you are in Christ Jesus, who was made to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption: 1:31 that, according as it is written, "He who boasts, let him boast in the Lord."{Jeremiah 9:24}
