Heb.4:4 For he has said this somewhere about the seventh day, "God rested on the seventh day from all his works;"{Genesis 2:2} 4:5 and in this place again, "They will not enter into my rest."{Psalm 95:11}
What is the will of our Father in heaven? Is it not that we should rest from our works and enter into his? Yet, few actually enter into God's rest simply because they cannot hear his voice for lack of faith. What are our works?
Heb.2:10 But to us, God revealed them through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 2:11 For who among men knows the things of a man, except the spirit of the man, which is in him? Even so, no one knows the things of God, except God's Spirit.
A simple, but profound question we all need to ask ourselves daily? Our rest as Christian's is Christ Jesus, our being “in Christ” is where we hear the voice of God. Yes, for us to hear the voice of our Father we must be in Christ resting from what? Our flesh! The flesh cannot rest, it is opposed to the Spirit and cannot please God, it is of no value at all for hearing the voice of the Father (Spirit).
1Cor.2:14 Now the natural man doesn't receive the things of God's Spirit, for they are foolishness to him, and he can't know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 2:15 But he who is spiritual discerns all things, and he himself is judged by no one. 2:16 "For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct him?"{Isaiah 40:13} But we have Christ's mind.
For this reason, God's mercy kills our flesh, set it aside, buries it for us so we can rest from its relentless self-justification. But few hear the voice of the Spirit for the loud voice of the flesh demanding what its needs and wants are to God, that is, what works it wants to do. The flesh cannot be a servant to Christ or the Father it is impossible, for the flesh cannot be in subjection to laws of God, and if one breaks the laws of God they are lawless, putting them under God wrath, not friendship.
Rom.8:7 because the mind of the flesh is hostile towards God; for it is not subject to God's law, neither indeed can it be. 8:8 Those who are in the flesh can't please God.
The flesh cannot worship in Spirit and truth, that is, in Holy Spirit which it is opposed to, and the truth, which is, Christ because flesh cannot enter into the spirit life of Christ. Those justifying their flesh, by calling it lustful works God's will for them, will have their pet projects burnt as if by fire, if they are in Christ, and resting while justifying their own will of their flesh as God's works.
John.6:28 They said therefore to him, "What must we do, that we may work the works of God?" 6:29 Jesus answered them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent."
1Cor.3:13 each man's work will be revealed. For the Day will declare it, because it is revealed in fire; and the fire itself will test what sort of work each man's work is. 3:14 If any man's work remains which he built on it, he will receive a reward. 3:15 If any man's work is burned, he will suffer loss, but he himself will be saved, but as through fire. 3:16 Don't you know that you are a temple of God, and that God's Spirit lives in you?
Israel could not enter into God's rest because they could not rest in God's prophet Moses, who they were baptized into at the Red Sea who spoke God's voice to them. They were invited in, but once there they could not desist from the will of their own flesh the things they thought they deserved as God chosen people, and insisted upon from Moses.
Numbers 13:32 They brought up an evil report of the land which they had spied out to the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that eats up its inhabitants; and all the people who we saw in it are men of great stature.
Numbers 14:2 All the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said to them, Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would that we had died in this wilderness! 14:3 Why does Yahweh bring us to this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be a prey: wouldn't it be better for us to return into Egypt?
What do we need from Christ that we are baptize into? We are told with no doubt what Christ will do for us, how much he will provide for us, none that accept Christ have every been disappointed that Christ did not keep his word perfectly to them. It is only the discontentment of our flesh that we lose our rest in Christ. The voice of the Spirit does not change it is the same today as it was yesterday is it not? Have we changed, was it not enough?
1Cor.3:21 Therefore let no one boast in men. For all things are yours, 3:22 whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come. All are yours, 3:23 and you are Christ's, and Christ is God's.
Luke 22:35 He said to them, "When I sent you out without purse, and wallet, and shoes, did you lack anything?" They said, "Nothing."
Matt. 6:25 Therefore, I tell you, don't be anxious for your life: what you will eat, or what you will drink; nor yet for your body, what you will wear. Isn't life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 6:26 See the birds of the sky, that they don't sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren't you of much more value than they? 6:27 "Which of you, by being anxious, can add one moment{literally, cubit} to his lifespan? 6:28 Why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They don't toil, neither do they spin, 6:29 yet I tell you that even Solomon in all his glory was not dressed like one of these. 6:30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today exists, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, won't he much more clothe you, you of little faith? 6:31 "Therefore don't be anxious, saying, 'What will we eat?', 'What will we drink?' or, 'With what will we be clothed?' 6:32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 6:33 But seek first God's Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. 6:34 Therefore don't be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day's own evil is sufficient.
