Rom.10:3 For being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, they didn't subject themselves to the righteousness of God.
God has a righteousness, man has a righteousness, but are they the same righteousness? Here the apostle Paul states the summation of the whole in why Israel failed to accept the Christ? Israel was ignorant of God's righteousness, as unbelievable as that might seem to a Hebrew whom was born and raised to understand God's righteousness they were ignorant of it?
John 5:30 I can of myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is righteous; because I don't seek my own will, but the will of my Father who sent me.
John 7:24 Don't judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment."
God's righteousness for Israel was expressed in his law, the law given to Moses showing the unfathomable power of a incorruptible God but just like so many religious people since have thought the law is what made them righteous, but is that true?
Hebrews 7:19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.
No! The law made no sinner righteous, no not one! The law was God's perfect righteousness expressed to a nation that had no righteousness because sinners do not have righteousness before God, not one! God's perfect righteous law condemned every man and woman under it as being imperfect a sinner that could not save themselves by any work, that is, a work of keeping the law.
Romans 2:23 You who glory in the law, through your disobedience of the law do you dishonor God?
Romans 3:19 Now we know that whatever things the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God
Adam after sinning could not keep God's righteousness so why would a sinful nation think it could? The confusion is in the word righteousness, in thinking it something a sinner can obtain to, but they can't, its really that simple and the proof in the pudding. What was in the law to save a person from being condemned by the power of the law? Redemption of precious blood of an innocent victim, yes, a life must buy our sins there is the only power a sinner had under the law, God's undeserved kindness in giving us an innocent life for are not so innocent life.
Hebrews 9:19 For when every commandment had been spoken by Moses to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of the calves and the goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,
Hebrews 9:22 According to the law, nearly everything is cleansed with blood, and apart from shedding of blood there is no remission.
No person from Adam born into sin, or from Adam loin could keep the law, they could never become a non-sinner by works they do, even if they thought keeping the law was God's works and the zealous tried to keep it they could not. All they could do is acknowledge that all fail short of God's glory, yes, God's glory which is sinless perfection.
John 1:14 The Word became flesh, and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the one and only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God;
1 John 3:6 Whoever remains in him doesn't sin. Whoever sins hasn't seen him, neither knows him.
That is right the word righteousness is to be without sin, the blood on the altar allowed one to be made right for a short time period, right how? By having their sins wiped away, blotted out from God's sight of judgment under his perfect righteous law.
Hebrews 13:11 For the bodies of those animals, whose blood is brought into the holy place by the high priest as an offering for sin, are burned outside of the camp.{Leviticus 16:27}
Now this is the context of Paul's words above, Israel thought they could obtain to righteousness by works of law, that is, trying to keep the law. They believed it so strongly that they killed God's righteousness for mankind. They judged a sinless man guilty of breaking God's righteous law. Christ was God's perfect solution to offer mankind a once for all times total redemption from sin.
Hebrews 9:26 or else he must have suffered often since the foundation of the world. But now once at the end of the ages, he has been revealed to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
Hebrews 9:28 so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, without sin, to those who are eagerly waiting for him for salvation.
Most failed in believing in Christ sinless life, and most religious people today fail the same way as the Jews did. They seek instead their own righteousness through some sort of good work under the title of a work of God for a group. No sinner can be sinless by some work, once Adam sinned how could he do a work that would make him sinless again, how foolish? Yet, isn't that what false religion teaches as the key to please God?
Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse. For it is written, "Cursed is everyone who doesn't continue in all things that are written in the book of the law, to do them."{Deuteronomy 27:26}
Galatians 2:16 yet knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the law, because no flesh will be justified by the works of the law.
That is correct, its exactly the way all most everyone on earth thinks, it is the exact counsel you will receive from religious person, to sin less by doing works from God in obeying God's word the bible, making oneself more righteous to please God, but they are denying the power of God, not even realizing it?
2Tim.3:5 holding a form of godliness, but having denied the power thereof. Turn away from these, also.
Hebrews 7:16 who has been made, not after the law of a fleshly commandment, but after the power of an endless life:
Hebrews 1:3 His Son is the radiance of his glory, the very image of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself made purification for our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
2 Corinthians 13:4 For he was crucified through weakness, yet he lives through the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we will live with him through the power of God toward you.
Ephesians 1:19 and what is the exceeding greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to that working of the strength of his might
The power was in the gift of the blood to make a sinner right, the power is in Christ to make us right once for all times it is a gift, not a payment we can pay back so why boast in works?
Romans 5:17 For if by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one; so much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 11:6 And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.
