1John. 3:15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.
Here we have to speak plain hard truth for most of us to get the point of John's letter. Do humans have eternal life dwelling in them? No! They may think about eternal life, love the idea that God gives those whom love him eternal life. But John here is point specific in speaking to a group of person having eternal life dwelling in them, and who is that group he speaks to?
John.17:23 I in them, and you in me, that they may be perfected into one; that the world may know that you sent me, and loved them, even as you loved me.
That group is God's children, they have the “eternal” living in them, as part of his body members. Yes, Christ Jesus, which is, the whole point and theme of John's letter. They were the light, they were in God's love, they are sinless because of Christ life indwelling them and they were personally taught by God's Holy Spirit, which is the truth unlike any other group of God people in any other time in human history.
John.17:25 Righteous Father, the world hasn't known you, but I knew you; and these knew that you sent me.
1 Peter 1:4 to an incorruptible and undefiled inheritance that doesn't fade away, reserved in Heaven for you,
Without Christ life indwelling them they are in darkness, they are not walking in love, because in Christ is God's love, that is, being in Christ teaches them the truth of God from Christ love for his Father. So leaving the Christ into works of law they no longing love their brothers, but why?
1 John 3:14 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. He who doesn't love his brother remains in death.
Ephesians 3:17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; to the end that you, being rooted and grounded in love.
Colossians 1:13 who delivered us out of the power of darkness, and translated us into the Kingdom of the Son of his love;
Because in Christ is part of intimate group called the body of Christ, how does on hate his own body? No! We feed and cherish it just as Christ does his own body. There is no division by rules, or doctrine that divides the body into groups, into some better, and some worst that is not a body at all! The rule of the body is God's love for the body.
Colossians 2:2 that their hearts may be comforted, they being knit together in love, and gaining all riches of the full assurance of understanding, that they may know the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ,
It is the flesh that divides, not God's Spirit, it is the flesh that makes judgments of death for religious people! By God's laws, God's commandments, God's righteousness. But the key to understanding John's words is found in the “eternal”. Yes, the eternal the very thought of being indwell with the eternal life of Christ should teach us something should it not?
1 John 2:20 You have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all have knowledge.{Or, "know what is true." Or, "know all things."}
1 John 2:27 As for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you don't need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him.
To have eternal life, and these brothers of Christ did, because he is the eternal, and he was in them, and they were in him. That would mean they were without sin. In other words, without the judgments of sin. Now stop and think of that for a moment, to be in the eternal one there could be no sin, or at least not be judges for sins of our flesh any longer, but why?
John 8:15 You judge according to the flesh. I judge no one.
John 6:63 It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life.
Romans 7:5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were through the law, worked in our members to bring forth fruit to death.
Romans 8:8 Those who are in the flesh can't please God.
It is because the flesh cannot stop sinning and if we say it can by human works we are a liar that's what John telling us. So why would anyone judge a member of their own body with different rules than they themselves are not being judge by? Moreover, what would they be doing according to John? They would be a murder of their brother, and if they are a murder of their own body, the eternal does not dwell in them.
Matt.5:21 "You have heard that it was said to the ancient ones, 'You shall not murder;'{Exodus 20:13} and 'Whoever shall murder shall be in danger of the judgment.' 5:22 But I tell you, that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause{NU omits "without a cause".} shall be in danger of the judgment; and whoever shall say to his brother, 'Raca{"Raca" is an Aramaic insult, related to the word for "empty" and conveying the idea of empty-headedness.}!' shall be in danger of the council; and whoever shall say, 'You fool!' shall be in danger of the fire of Gehenna.{or, Hell} 5:23 "If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you, 5:24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
1John. 3:15 Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.
That is precisely the point Christ made to the legal attorneys of faith at his time, if we had hate in our hearts towards our brothers we already murder them in God's judgment of us. Don't think here we have to do the physical act of murder to kill our brother. All we need do is apply laws of the flesh, going back to judgment of the flesh to kill them out of Christ. Why?
Romans 13:14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.
Romans 9:8 That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as a seed.
Romans 7:18 For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don't find it doing that which is good.
It so simple, all under the righteous laws of God are condemned to death in the flesh, its that simple! These brothers were in life because of how God love them in Christ Jesus. We either judge righteously or we judge unrighteous judgments. We have our righteousness by another righteousness that is the only loyal and truthful judgment we can make is it not? We did not receive righteousness by any good or bad we have done, so why teach we did?
1 Corinthians 4:7 For who makes you different? And what do you have that you didn't receive? But if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?
1 Peter 3:21 This is a symbol of baptism, which now saves you--not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Why hold another standard out for our brothers, why see the evil in their eye and forget about the death penalty in our own body of sin? If we have the eternal in us, the life of Christ, we have no sin, we walk in love, and we judge by righteousness, what is our righteousness, it is the Christ righteousness that removed our deserved death for sin.
Romans 3:22 even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ to all and on all those who believe. For there is no distinction,.
Romans 3:25 whom God set forth to be an atoning sacrifice{or, a propitiation}, through faith in his blood, for a demonstration of his righteousness through the passing over of prior sins, in God's forbearance;
Romans 8:10 If Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the spirit is alive because of righteousness.
Titus 3:5 not by works of righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy, he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,
You see judgment of the flesh, is to kill that one point we just cannot stand in our brothers eye that one sin that we must extract from him by using what every power we can muster up. There is no greater power, nothing stronger to muster up then God's laws for righteousness condemning our flesh. But in doing so, we judge ourselves into the same death. The only way we can judge righteously is by judging in Christ righteousness, something not taught by false religion!
Rom. 7:4 Therefore, my brothers, you also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you would be joined to another, to him who was raised from the dead, that we might bring forth fruit to God. 7:5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were through the law, worked in our members to bring forth fruit to death. 7:6 But now we have been discharged from the law, having died to that in which we were held; so that we serve in newness of the spirit, and not in oldness of the letter. 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? May it never be! However, I wouldn't have known sin, except through the law. For I wouldn't have known coveting, unless the law had said, "You shall not covet."{Exodus 20:17; Deuteronomy 5:21} 7:8 But sin, finding occasion through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of coveting. For apart from the law, sin is dead. 7:9 I was alive apart from the law once, but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. 7:10 The commandment, which was for life, this I found to be for death;
