Proverbs 20:9 Who can say, "I have made my heart pure. I am clean and without sin?"
We may have heard the old saying: “the deeper you dig the deeper you go”! In other words, sometimes with our best efforts we dig a hole that we cannot climb out of.
This thought is one expressed in a story of two men that had been friends for years. They were headed to a job too reconstructed an old farm house, they were fighting the entire way, nothing unusual about this conduct ii had been going on for years.
They always fought about how the job should be done, who was better, smarter, and so on . . .
On this day it became very heated argument once on the job site, so one of them stomped off into the back yard with the other close on his heels yelling to make his point clear! However, once in the back yard both men fell into a old septic that they were unaware of?
Instead of stopping the argument, being in the stinky old tank, it only escalated the anger, into blaming one other for not knowing the hole was in the backyard? Which just served too make them madder, until one of them start fling the filth stuff on other, until finally both were covered completely without one clean spot on either of them.
Finally, one of them found a small board on the bottom of the tank and stood on it so he was a few short inches taller, and, hence, he boldly declared himself the winner!
When the owner of the property showed up, he had been listening for sometime not wanting to get involved, he finally burst into laughter at these two fools covered with dung, still arguing about whom was cleaner.
One of them barked back at his laughter, and the owner said: “You both stink, who cares if you have a clean spot on you, what's coming out of your mouths is dirtier than what your standing in!”
Isaiah 1:16 Wash yourselves, make yourself clean. Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes. Cease to do evil.
MORAL OF THE STORY
Christian's often argue over which religion, and/or brother or sister in their faith is cleaner than others by what they do, or by what they know. But all of us are standing in a deep hole of uncleanness, did you know that? Most Christian's are actually ignorant of this statement, they have been taught they can be holy by obedience to certain biblical rules of their religion.
But the truth is according to God's word the bible that is a lie! No human on earth can put away the filth of their own flesh, does that shock you?
1 Peter 3:21 This is a symbol of baptism, which now saves you--not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
WORKS OF LAW?
Romans 2:13 For it isn't the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be justified.
Do you actually know what a work of law is? To help us understand this question, which might seem simple on face value, let us ask a question, is God controlled by the laws of our sinful flesh? In other words, what law control YHWH, and his Son Christ Jesus? Do they need laws to put away the filth of their own flesh? Well, no! They have no flesh and its lust, but when Christ Jesus had flesh on earth, it was not filth according to His Father's judgment of him, and how do we know this?
John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
John 4:24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."
We know it because Christ did not sin, but much more so, the law of God through Moses rewards all those keeping it perfectly (without sin) with life eternal, like Adam and Eve could have had, but failed to receive by their sins. You see both Adam and Eve could have lived forever in paradise. Thus, Christ could have lived for every on earth because he never sinned, but of greater importantance he had no desire too sin by the lust of the unclean flesh, like we do.
Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious, which are: adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness,
So what is a work of law? Let us know that any work the sinful flesh does in trying too earn credit with others in their own sinful flesh is a work of law to accuses or excuse our sinful flesh. Just like the two friends above really only wanted credit from the other, for what they thought they had earned in this life.
Galatians 2:16 yet knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the law, because no flesh will be justified by the works of the law.
How do we know this? It is because God tells us this is true in sending us his Son Christ Jesus to earn what we could not earn as a sinner to be declared righteous by God's law. Yes, being declared righteous not by our own righteousness in earning merit by works of law from a sinful flesh, but imputed righteousness of another whom flesh was not corrupted by sin of Adam.
In other words, we have been purchases by a righteous life that of Christ Jesus. We cannot buy ourselves out of this deep hole of the filth of our flesh, we can only ask God for a clean conscience based upon Christ Jesus righteous life given too us by God's own love.
Hebrews 7:26 For such a high priest was fitting for us: holy, guiltless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens.
DIGGING A DEEP HOLE
When we justify ourselves, which as obvious as the word justification is, but is most often misunderstood by Christian's. Justifying ourselves is using God's word, a verse, or a principle within it, to say we are excused from our wrong and/or right actions, but why is this wrong?
Romans 3:10 As it is written, "There is no one righteous; no, not one.
Because God's word has never justified any human in their sinful flesh, but only Christ Jesus whom never sinned. What God's word does is condemns us as a sinner needing the free gift of God's love, which is, Christ Jesus, his righteous life. Once we start down the road of self-justification by using the bible, or for that matter any laws that controls, convicts, the sinful flesh accounted by God as wicked, which is, a sinner, is wicked to God, if the sinner is not justified by Christ Jesus life. Subsequently, we become like the foolish friends trying to find one clean spot on us, and/or trying to climb on some verses in the bible to makes us taller in eyes of others, so we appear better, or cleaner.
However, none of us can put away the filth of our flesh, which is, corruption and death too God righteous laws. Hence, the more we dig to prove ourselves right the deeper the hole get until we cannot get out of it. We have no hope of climbing out by our good efforts, so we must cry out for help, who's help? The only person that can help us get out of the hole of filth stinky flesh from sin, God help through Christ Jesus.
Rom. 7:18 For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don't find it doing that which is good. 7:19 For the good which I desire, I don't do; but the evil which I don't desire, that I practice.
Rom.7:24 What a wretched man I am! Who will deliver me out of the body of this death? 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ, our Lord! So then with the mind, I myself serve God's law, but with the flesh, the sin's law.
Yes, God than looks at Christ Jesus righteous life, and pulls us up out of the hole of sin by giving us a clean conscience so we stand before God without judgment for the filth of our flesh, that is, sins of our flesh.
Sinning by Thoughts
Let us never forget one bad thought is a sin, a sin that must be atone for by righteous blood, not just an action, but rather just a thought. Thus, if we hate our friends, our brother, or sister, or even our enemies in our hearts we have sinned. If we look at the opposite sex with lust we have sinned. If we justify ourselves we haves sinned, if we lust for money we have sinned. You, see, it is this evil that is filth to God, not just acting upon it, but our thoughts are sin, it is corruption, which is filth, and all we can do about it is accept God's gift undeserving for such wickedness of thoughts by our faith in Christ.
Matt. 5:27 "You have heard that it was said, {TR adds "to the ancients,"} 'You shall not commit adultery;'{Exodus 20:14} 5:28 but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.
A Little Obedience Is Not Good Enough
Only one man in his flesh was obedient too God, no other could be completely obedient without sin, which is why God sent us the sinless lamb of God, Christ Jesus. Many Christian's believe their obedience makes them acceptable too God, but that is a lie!
It was Christ Jesus obedience, which gives us the gift of God's love allowing God to passover our sins, which all sin is lawlessness, hence, lawlessness is disobedience. Some obedience on some points of our life is not enough for us to be accept by God, God only accept Christ complete obedience as the perfect gift of life making us a whole person declared us righteous before him. Don't be fooled, some yeast of sin, is makes it all yeast, not a little yeast, and a little unleavened bread on some good point of our lives, making us clean. Not a little clean water poured into polluted water making it clean. Nor does a person standing in a stink hole is accounted clean because they can find a board to stand a few short inches taller than the other guy!
John 1:29 The next day, he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
Christ alone stood tall, he never stood in a stink hole of sin corrupting the flesh. Subsequently, if we are not justified by his actions, we are self-condemned, and as foolish as the two friends arguing about who is better or cleaner.
James 3:10 Out of the same mouth comes forth blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. 3:11 Does a spring send out from the same opening fresh and bitter water? 3:12 Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh water. 3:13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom. 3:14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don't boast and don't lie against the truth.
God's Mountain
Revelation 14:1 I saw, and behold, the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with him a number, one hundred forty-four thousand, having his name, and the name of his Father, written on their foreheads.
Let us come up to the Christ standing on Mount Zion far above the corruption of this earth, let us be brought up by his precious blood, let us remain as we should in thankfulness of indescribable gift of God's love, in giving us such a grand and wondrous life.
John 6:33 For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world." 6:34 They said therefore to him, "Lord, always give us this bread." 6:35 Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.
Yes, coming up to feeding on the unleavened bread of God, the sinless life of Christ Jesus giving us life, refreshed us by his justification of us by our faith in Christ life, not our own life, that is, what we might do in proving ourselves right before man and God, but instead, resting in the blood of the passover lamb, knowing that blood is righteous enough to abolish God's righteousness judgment against us.
Heb.4:9 There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God. 4:10 For he who has entered into his rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from his.
This is the elevations we must come up to, not man made mountains of religion, or high sounding positions that are nothing more than one man's filth of flesh justified as better than another man's filth of his own flesh, which his nothing more than filth! But rather up to something so wonderful and great we can only accept that God is greater than our own hearts, hence, YHWH is good, and will not leave those seeking him in truth and Spirit. This is the mountain we worship at, invisible too human sight, but felt as a reality by our faith.
Heb.12:22 But you have come to Mount Zion, and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable multitudes of angels, 12:23 to the general assembly and assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, 12:24 to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant,{Jeremiah 31:31} and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better than that of Abel.
Let us reject our own sinful self-justification as dead in Christ Jesus, let us not listen to it lies about how good and wonderful we are so we defend ourselves to prove we are righteous, no! Rather, let each of stay out of this stink hole of lack of faith, and fix our eyes above where true righteousness dwells.
