There are three very effective ways to destablise narcissist and sufferers of NPD which I have used against my ex -
1. When they are “punishing” you - freezing you out for example - don’t even HINT that it is upsetting you. The icing on their cake is how “badly” you react to their bullshit. Carry on as normal, be polite as normal; DON’T let them see they are getting to you in any way.
This will then see them do one of two things - either up the nasty until you bite and they get the reaction they’re waiting for
OR
go into back peddle mode and turn on super sickly charm and kindness, wait for you to respond, then pull the rug out from under you when you least expect it. Like an ambush.
2. Demonstrate you can function just fine without them. go out with friends and don’t invite him, go shopping alone, arrange for friends to come over and if he doesn’t like it too bad …. you get the idea?
3. give them the same treatment back - BEFORE they do it to you. For example, freeze THEM out if they don’t do something to your liking.
Work out what they think gives them power over you and either change that or treat them the same way.
Of course, these are only time biding tactics, and if you know they have this affliction you really should cut them from your life as soon as possible, before they damage you further. The longer these sick, toxic people are in your life the more life they suck out of you so tread carefully and make sure you absolutely understand what you are dealing with. Or leave.
