Daily Bible Thought > John.5:18. - He Called God His Own Father

Daily Bible Thought: He called Himself God's Son!

John.5:18 For this cause therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the Sabbath, but also called God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

Heritage was everything to Israel they were children of Abraham, but there was more. They were also son's of the twelve tribes of Israel coming from the twelve son's of Jacob. They were also son's of Moses, and the prophets. Subsequently, their standing, their position in life depended upon what tribe of Israel they came from.

John 9:28 They insulted him and said, "You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. 9:29 We know that God has spoken to Moses. But as for this man, we don't know where he comes from."

Luke 20:37 But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he called the Lord 'The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.'{Exodus 3:6}

John 8:39 They answered him, "Our father is Abraham." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham.

Their heritage and names were tenaciously studied tracing each Israelite back to their roots. However, here Christ literally stunned his listeners, eventhough, he came from an illustrious heritage himself, he states what no Israelite in the flesh would state that he was born directly from God, Jehovah, he did not say he was God, but that God was his Father, stunning! Moses did not say he was God's son, not even the greatest prophet according to Christ, John the Baptist stated he was born of God and God was his Father.

John 1:15 John testified about him. He cried out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me, for he was before me.'"

John 5:36 But the testimony which I have is greater than that of John, for the works which the Father gave me to accomplish, the very works that I do, testify about me, that the Father has sent me.

Luke 7:28 "For I tell you, among those who are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptizer, yet he who is least in the Kingdom of God is greater than he."

This thought in the mind of a legal law keeping Pharisee could only mean one thing as it does in the world of the flesh. Christ was entitled to all of God's things as his son, making himself God. That is how the law in Israel worked that is how inheritance worked the son was equal to the father belonging making him equal to their father. Who could put themselves in such a high position that is sheer presumptuousness in the eyes of the legal mind stealing what is rightfully God's.

John 8:28 Jesus therefore said to them, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and I do nothing of myself, but as my Father taught me, I say these things.

John 8:53 Are you greater than our father, Abraham, who died? The prophets died. Who do you make yourself out to be?"

John 8:54 Jesus answered, "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say that he is our God.

Nevertheless, it was the truth, and Christ did not lie, the kingdom of God had overtaken those unloving faithless teachers in Israel. They had convicted Christ of evil, they had convicted Christ of lying, they had convicted Christ as a false god, and they had convicted Christ of apostasy. Sadly, the law was not created for the righteous but the unrighteous, not Christ the one righteous man God sent into the world to save us.

1Tim.1:9 as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, 1:10 for the sexually immoral, for homosexuals, for slave-traders, for liars, for perjurers, and for any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine;

The teachers were fleshly seeking power and fame nothing could be greater than boasting in the flesh, in their heritage, but Christ did not boast in the flesh, he did not give credit to the flesh, he came to give glory to God. Unfortunately, the flesh thinks in terms of death, the unholy worship of men, of position, of government, of power this is how the unrighteous think and judge the matters of this life. But sadly, the flesh cannot judge Spirit, it does not sin, it does not fit into the package that gives flesh power, “judging” human weakness for position and power of control over others.

John 8:15 You judge according to the flesh. I judge no one.

1Cor.1:26 For you see your calling, brothers, that not many are wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, and not many noble; 1:27 but God chose the foolish things of the world that he might put to shame those who are wise. God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put to shame the things that are strong; 1:28 and God chose the lowly things of the world, and the things that are despised, and the things that are not, that he might bring to nothing the things that are: 1:29 that no flesh should boast before God. 1:30 But of him, you are in Christ Jesus, who was made to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption: 1:31 that, according as it is written, "He who boasts, let him boast in the Lord."{Jeremiah 9:24}

Christ offered them and us freedom from what the fleshly mind, its judgments, Christ gave us freedom by dying for our sins, he took our judgment under the law created for sinners. He let himself be wronged he finished the worked of the first son of God for us, Adam, giving us a perfect birth into a new sinless life, Christ, so that we might be son's of God. Yes, our heritage is of God, we do not boast in our flesh, we do not think our position in Christ comes from our family tree. Christ was not known by this world, do we really grasp that statement, if so, then we can understand the finally judgment of the sheep and goats?

John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world didn't recognize him.

John 3:19 This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil.

John 8:23 He said to them, "You are from beneath. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world.

Matt. 25:32 Before him all the nations will be gathered, and he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 25:33 He will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 25:34 Then the King will tell those on his right hand, 'Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 25:35 for I was hungry, and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a stranger, and you took me in. 25:36 I was naked, and you clothed me. I was sick, and you visited me. I was in prison, and you came to me.' 25:37 "Then the righteous will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you; or thirsty, and give you a drink? 25:38 When did we see you as a stranger, and take you in; or naked, and clothe you?
25:39 When did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to you?' 25:40 "The King will answer them, 'Most certainly I tell you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers{The word for "brothers" here may be also correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings."}, you did it to me.'
