Daily Bible Thought > Peter.1:1 - Sanctification

Daily Bible Thought: Sanctification

Peter.1:1, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the chosen ones who are living as foreigners in the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 1:2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, that you may obey Jesus Christ and be sprinkled with his blood: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.

Here we are faced as human with a fundamental truth, a truth found throughout the new testament, and/or the Greek scriptures, our personal obedience to God is dependent upon sanctification from the blood of Christ, and not just sanctification alone, but also having Spirit freely given us so we may remain in the sanctification in Christ.

Romans 6:22 But now, being made free from sin, and having become servants of God, you have your fruit of sanctification, and the result of eternal life.

If we miss that foundational point, we will try to sanctify ourselves by application of God's word the bible. We will try to scrub ourselves clean, by obedience to words recorded in our bibles from our own spirit of our flesh, and/or our will and find ourselves defeated in works of law. We will set out on a road that is impossible to finish, because the flesh cannot be made perfect or sanctified, Peter is not dealing with our flesh, he is dealing with Christ, and our being put to death in our flesh and made alive in the Spirit (Christ) new. Peter is talking to those in Christ who have been put to death in their sinful flesh, and raised in Christ (Spirit), not the other way around.

1 Corinthians 1:30 But of him, you are in Christ Jesus, who was made to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption:

Each anointed child of God is made alive and sanctified by the Spirit, do not confuse yourselves as so many have, who have been taught that the Spirit is the bible. The holy writings God's word was written by God's Holy Spirit. But it not the Spirit Peter speaks to here in his letters. The written word leads us to Christ, where God choose or not to give us the Holy Spirit that teaches, feeds, sanctifies us, and guards our faith in Christ. It is our relationship with God's by Spirit that sanctify us in Christ that relationship is with the Word, Christ. Christ is our high priest serving in his body, a spirit body, the temple of God which keeps us holy, sanctified in God's love.

Romans 6:19 I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh, for as you presented your members as servants to uncleanness and to wickedness upon wickedness, even so now present your members as servants to righteousness for sanctification.

Romans 3:10 As it is written, "There is no one righteous; no, not one.

Because of Christ sanctification removing our flesh judgment we have a perfect relationship in Christ with our heavenly Father. Peter states another fundamental truth which is also the theme of the Greeks writings our relationship with God and Christ is by undeserved kindness, or grace, we have been given freely Christ merit unearned by us, Christ merit abolish our judgment in Christ by removal of our sin flesh; proving God's love and Christ own love for us. In other words, they paid the price for our life (Spirit), before we could do good or bad in serving God. It has been their work (Spirit) which has given us as a gift that we stand. This theme Peter will build upon as the Holy Spirit causes Peter to write down God's thoughts through Christ, into foundation stones as living sacrifices upon hearts of the New Jerusalem above our mother.

Revelation 15:4 Who wouldn't fear you, Lord, and glorify your name? For you only are holy. For all the nations will come and worship before you. For your righteous acts have been revealed."
