MAIN TALK UNDERSTANDING GOD THE SCRIPTURES

Daily Bible Thought > James 4:5 The spirit of Envying Dwelling in us?

James 4:5 Or think ye that the scripture speaketh in vain? Doth the spirit which he made to dwell in us long unto envying?

We are not left to wonder about the truth of our fallen flesh and its spirit of envy? Religion has obscured the condition of our fallen flesh by the feel good positive self-help prosperous life philosophy. Unfortunately, the fruit of such teachings are being reaped in a self-centered no respect society among Christian's in today's world.

Proverbs 22:15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child: the rod of discipline drives it far from him.

Proverbs 23:13 Don't withhold correction from a child. If you punish him with the rod, he will not die.

Heb.12:6 For whom the Lord loves, he chastens, and scourges every son whom he receives."{Proverbs 3:11-12} 12:7 It is for discipline that you endure. God deals with you as with children, for what son is there whom his father doesn't discipline? 12:8 But if you are without discipline, of which all have been made partakers, then are you illegitimate, and not children.

What is it we should know as God's people about our fallen flesh? We should know what present in our flesh is common to all of mankind. Why is this so important? It is because those calling themselves Christian's most often take the feelings and envy's of their fallen flesh weaving them into scriptures believing those are God's desires and feeling as will, so they can obtain what all fallen flesh desire upon earth.

James 4:1 Where do wars and fightings among you come from? Don't they come from your pleasures that war in your members?
4:2 You lust, and don't have. You kill, covet, and can't obtain. You fight and make war. You don't have, because you don't ask.
4:3 You ask, and don't receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures.
4:4 You adulterers and adulteresses, don't you know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

When we do that, we are bragging, and lying against the truth, that is, the Spirit of truth given us freely by having the righteous life of Christ indwell us. The power of the fallen flesh spirit can be seen in entertainment, what is the theme? Being bad, killing others for justice, power through wealth, making others respect us by force. The ultimate power is killing of another human touted as the aphrodisiac of all power rushes.

2Tim. 3:1 But know this, that in the last days, grievous times will come. 3:2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3:3 without natural affection, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, no lovers of good, 3:4 traitors, headstrong, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God;
3:5 holding a form of godliness, but having denied the power thereof. Turn away from these, also. 3:6 For of these are those who creep into houses, and take captive gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, 3:7 always learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

James 3:14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don't boast and don't lie against the truth. 3:15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic. 3:16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed. 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. 3:18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

Should we be surprised that Christian's in their fallen flesh would incorporate such desires into their religious belief system? No we should not! That is exactly what James was reproving and teaching about in his letter. That God's anointed must understand clearly that nothing good is found in their sinful flesh. That it is the exact opposite of the power of Holy Spirit in opposition to. Moreover, this is why God puts it to death in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:13 For if you live after the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Romans 7:18 For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don't find it doing that which is good.

God will not build up the desires in our flesh when he hates the desires of this world. We are not exempt because we put good motives too them, by using scriptures to justify evil for good. God is not a friends of this world, nor should we be by milking our desires in the fallen flesh that all flesh strives in from birth, that is, born with, and what is that? To make a better life, to make a name, to gain power, to leave a legacy, to protect our wealth and property. This is what's common to all flesh from its conception in the Garden of Eden. It is not special or unique because we understand the bible or even teach it.

James 4:13 Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow let's go into this city, and spend a year there, trade, and make a profit."
4:14 Whereas you don't know what your life will be like tomorrow. For what is your life? For you are a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away. 4:15 For you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will both live, and do this or that." 4:16 But now you glory in your boasting. All such boasting is evil. 4:17 To him therefore who knows to do good, and doesn't do it, to him it is sin.

James. 4:7 Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 4:8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 4:9 Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to gloom. 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
