MAIN TALK UNDERSTANDING GOD THE SCRIPTURES

No Sign-in/All Your Information Anonymous > How Can We Stop Sinning?

1 Peter 4:1 Forasmuch then as Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin.

According to Peter here a person can cease from sin, but the apostle John says:

1John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

So we have two extremes what was Peter and John speaking of? Simply put, those in Christ Jesus are not sinners they are of the body of Christ Jesus having no sin because of his righteousness while living in their sinful flesh upon earth. In other words, each body member has Christ Jesus sinless life imputed too them removing their judgment of sin.

Rom.8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don't walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.{NU omits "who don't walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit"} 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death.

Thus, they are sinners as John speak too, but they can cease from sin when in Christ Jesus righteousness as Peter speak too. Christian's cease from sin as they suffer in their sinful flesh by judging themselves correctly as a member of the body of Christ Jesus, or comparing their own sinful rightness in light of Christ Jesus righteousness.

In other words, when a Christian's become spiritually mature enough that they seek Christ above and his righteousness they stop comparing themselves against other Christian's. They judge themselves perfectly by Christ Jesus own righteousness, which in given them as a gift of God's unmerited kindness.

No more can they be self-right or self-righteous, they must see themselves as failing far short of Christ Jesus righteousness needing God undeserved kindness to save them each day and eternally. Those with this mind-set have ceased from sin, in that, through their suffering in the flesh they judge themselves correctly as a sinner needing unmerited help from God's Holy Spirit.

Now they can walk in Spirit, being lead for God's will, living in Christ, and Christ living through them, under the righteousness of Christ, and not their own. In this manner they cease from sin though they are still in their sinful body upon earth, they can judge correctly the wrestling of Spirit against flesh putting it too death, so Christ might live in them for God's glory.

1Cor.11:27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks the Lord's cup in a manner unworthy of the Lord will be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. 11:28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread, and drink of the cup. 11:29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, if he doesn't discern the Lord's body. 11:30 For this cause many among you are weak and sickly, and not a few sleep. 11:31 For if we discerned ourselves, we wouldn't be judged. 11:32 But when we are judged, we are punished by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

Gal.5:24 Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts.
5:25 If we live by the Spirit, let's also walk by the Spirit. 5:26 Let's not become conceited, provoking one another, and envying one another.
