Matt. 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
We would all like to think we are pure in heart, even those not accepting Christ. Mankind does not like to have their motives impuned, none of us!
Yet, the prophet Jeremiah was moved not by his own heart and power but the power of God's heart through Holy Spirit to write the truth of mankind's heart, he stated this:
Jer.17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it?
Moreover, the prophet the apostle Paul was moved by the same Holy Spirit to speak God's mind, and heart this way”
Rom.7:18 For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don't find it doing that which is good. 7:19 For the good which I desire, I don't do; but the evil which I don't desire, that I practice. 7:20 But if what I don't desire, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.
Subsequently, we find ourselves in an unobtainable situation if God tells us this is the truth of all human hearts, was Christ lying, would the pure of heart see God, or not?
Romans 3:19 Now we know that whatever things the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God.
Christ himself was God's greatest prophet of all, the last one that from heretofore would speak as God's prophet, God's mouth piece. In the body of Christ there is only one mouth, one brain, and all other prophets must be in Christ and speak Christ words, by the power of Holy Spirit or they are false prophets, just reading our bibles does not mean a person is speaking from a pure of heart, and/or through Christ. Moreover, isn't that the point? Christ was not lying, there is only one pure heart in the body of Christ which is without deceit that has been declared righteous by God, none other!
1Cor. 4:1 So let a man think of us as Christ's servants, and stewards of God's mysteries. 4:2 Here, moreover, it is required of stewards, that they be found faithful. 4:3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you, or by man's judgment. Yes, I don't judge my own self. 4:4 For I know nothing against myself. Yet I am not justified by this, but he who judges me is the Lord. 4:5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each man will get his praise from God.
What does that mean? It mean a righteous pure heart is without sin, never having sin, not sinning and then repenting, and that fix the sin in us, false teaching! Once sin is in us, we all must die, it cannot be taken out of us, it cannot be reformed in us, and here we come upon a another point of what Christ speaking to and about.
Galatians 6:8 For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
2 Corinthians 5:16 Therefore we know no one after the flesh from now on. Even though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now we know him so no more.
Romans 8:7 because the mind of the flesh is hostile towards God; for it is not subject to God's law, neither indeed can it be.
Romans 8:8 Those who are in the flesh can't please God.
Christ is speaking the truth of our fallen flesh under God's law, Christ was teaching the Jews, not the world, he was talking to a people thousands of years under God's law, who were zealous in keeping it, yet, not one, not one perfected themselves into a pure heart as all wanted to believe was possible through works of law. All found like God's prophets they were in an unobtainable situation no matter how much they longed for the righteousness of God, no matter how much they loved God's laws, the law could not perfect them, they could not obtain to a sinless pure heart.
Hebrews 7:19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.
Hebrews 7:28 For the law appoints men as high priests who have weakness, but the word of the oath which came after the law appoints a Son forever who has been perfected.
Hebrews 10:14 For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.
Christ the answer, not another salvation could save us, no other law, no other religion, or government, nor a person upon earth, not the greatest of all God's prophets up until Christ the pass over lamb. None could give us a pure heart without sin; those are the ones that will see God with pure hearts. Christ shocked his listeners when saying not even John the Baptist acended into heaven to see God, but one of the least of Christ brothers would be made pure of heart by Christ righteousness and would see God!
John 3:3 Jesus answered him, "Most certainly, I tell you, unless one is born anew,{The word translated "anew" here and in John 3:7 (anothen) also means "again" and "from above".} he can't see the Kingdom of God."
John 3:13 No one has ascended into heaven, but he who descended out of heaven, the Son of Man, who is in heaven.
John 3:27 John answered, "A man can receive nothing, unless it has been given him from heaven.
Matthew 11:11 Most certainly I tell you, among those who are born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptizer; yet he who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.
We should never read God's word with the idea that God is saying here is the ladder to eternal life, if you climb it, work really hard in keeping my laws you will obtain to eternal life. No! That will take us down a vast road into works of law that will plague us all the days of our lives, we will find ourselves being anything but pure in heart because if we judge ourselves such, we can do so falsely in one way, and how is that?
Rom.7:24 What a wretched man I am! Who will deliver me out of the body of this death? 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ, our Lord! So then with the mind, I myself serve God's law, but with the flesh, the sin's law.
It is by comparing, competing with other humans, measuring ourselves against other sinful flesh that cannot please God in the flesh anymore then we can, we are not coming up, we are doing nothing more then the world, for that is what all the world does. However, when we look above, we will quickly come to know the truth, we fall far short of God's glory, and we like all others need to be recreated into a new righteous life, without sin Christ Jesus, receiving his life in us, as the pure truth, heart of that will see God.
Romans 5:21 that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Philippians 3:9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own, that which is of the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;
Titus 3:5 not by works of righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy, he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit.
1 Peter 3:21 This is a symbol of baptism, which now saves you--not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 4:7 For who makes you different? And what do you have that you didn't receive? But if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?
