MAIN TALK UNDERSTANDING GOD THE SCRIPTURES

Daily Bible Thought > Rom.9:13-16 - Loved Jacob, But Esau I Hated?

Rom.9:13 Even as it is written, "Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated."{Malachi 1:2-3} 9:14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? May it never be! 9:15 For he said to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion."{Exodus 33:19} 9:16 So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who has mercy.

What is the context of Paul's words here? The context of the entire book of Roman's is about works of law Vs. Faith in Christ. Hence, losing that context many of us do, will not help a person grasp the reality of truth found in the letter to the Romans.

Hebrews 11:9 By faith, he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents, with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise.

Works of law can never please God, nor make us a friend of God, and in this case one of God's chosen people. God chose Abraham because of his faith in Him not because of some works of law, Abraham was doing towards God. Through Abraham's family came the nation of Israel, which family nation should of have had faith in Christ Jesus.

Esau by law should have had the birth right, that is, as first born according to God's law, but God did not go by the Law in choosing Jacob instead of Esau. But neither did Jacob or Esau come into existence by a work of law completed through Abraham. God is not a man; God cannot be obligate through legal contract no!

Romans 4:13 For the promise to Abraham and to his seed that he should be heir of the world wasn't through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

2 Peter 3:13 But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

1 John 2:25 This is the promise which he promised us, the eternal life.

Abraham faith in God was blessed, what a faith Abraham had in God? Faith in God's promises not in law but a friend whom trusted God's word. Abraham did not put his trust in an iron clad contract law, distrusting God's word to him, legally obligating God keep his end of the bargain.

God was good not a promises breaker that needs laws to make him do good!

Ephesians 2:9 not of works, that no one would boast.

God does not commune with distrust, but in faith because He is love, if we don't love God we cannot put faith in him by a legal document even if its religiously coined the truth! Fleshly minded people that are like Esau are legal contract people, they take God's word and demand rights by it, making God’s word a contract without love by legal definition demanding rights from man and God! Hence, allowing them to judges, and hate others who owe them according to contract law, but its hard to judge and hate others because of a promise from the God of love given or future too us!

Romans 4:16 For this cause it is of faith, that it may be according to grace, to the end that the promise may be sure to all the seed, not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all.

James 3:14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don't boast and don't lie against the truth. 3:15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic. 3:16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed.

For a promise to work one must impute good to the promissory, believing they are an honorable person, this require affection from our heart towards the person. But Esau was fleshly demanding a legal rights owed him as first born, God hated Esau for such a fleshly legal attitude which was murderous, Esau was willing to destroy life, his own brothers life, over an obligation in a legal document. (God’s word.)

Galatians 3:6 Even as Abraham "believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness."

Galatians 3:7 Know therefore that those who are of faith, the same are children of Abraham.

James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God," for God can't be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. 1:14 But each one is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. 1:15 Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin; and the sin, when it is full grown, brings forth death.
1:16 Don't be deceived, my beloved brothers. 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. 1:18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures. 1:19 So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger.

Today many have been the lives destroyed by Esau-Christian's who love the bible over God, or their organization over their brothers, hence, loving a legal contract over love of brother. Just like Esau whom demanded a legal rights, these Esau-Christian's cannot understand how God removed the law in Christ fulfilling His own legal right too judge us, removing it for faith in his love. God changed a birth right giving it instead too the Gentile nations who acted out of faith in His promise Christ Jesus, making them son’s of God Abraham children.

This whole scenario of Esau and Jacob would played out in an everlasting grander scale when Christ unfaithful brothers Israel would murder Christ Jesus the son of God over a birth right, while Christ trusted in his Fathers promises, allowing himself to be destroyed by the Jewish nation. Just like Esau would have destroyed Jacob's over a so called legal right of first born, if God hadn't intervene.

Galatians 3:8 The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the Good News beforehand to Abraham, saying, "In you all the nations will be blessed."{Genesis 12:3; 18:18; 22:18}

Galatians 3:9 So then, those who are of faith are blessed with the faithful Abraham.

Romans 4:13 For the promise to Abraham and to his seed that he should be heir of the world wasn't through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

The choosing of God's people is not based upon a legal right given by a religious organization it based up God's choice which cannot be earned by human goodness in meeting bible work of law. Let us always remember when a person is fleshly they oppose God, they hate God knowingly or unknowingly because they are blinded by demanding rights they think they've earned by doing a work of law!

Romans 4:14 For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void, and the promise is made of no effect. 15 For the law works wrath, for where there is no law, neither is there disobedience.
16 For this cause it is of faith, that it may be according to grace, to the end that the promise may be sure to all the seed, not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all.

Galatians 3:14 that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Christ Jesus; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Galatians 3:16 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He doesn't say, "To seeds," as of many, but as of one, "To your seed,"{Genesis 12:7; 13:15; 24:7} which is Christ.

Galatians 3:18 For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no more of promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by promise.

Galatians 4:22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the handmaid, and one by the free woman.

Hebrews 2:16 For most certainly, he doesn't give help to angels, but he gives help to the seed of Abraham.

Hebrews 6:13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he could swear by none greater, he swore by himself.
